Prime Minister Davutoglu will be in Brussels today to discuss with the EU’s leaders a deal on Syrian refugees. Turkey’s proposal (which was delivered to the EU on 7 March) comprised an offer for more help to the EU in exchange for an additional €3.0bn in financial aid through 2018, faster opening of negotiation-chapters in Turkey’s accession talks with the EU and earlier visa-free travel to EU countries for Turkish citizens. The proposal has not yet gained the full support of EU member states.
