Most "Gold EAs" on the market are black boxes: unexplained logic, no clear rules, and — worse — built on martingale or grid systems that look great until one bad week wipes the account. CBR — Gold Channel Trendline Reversal is different. It is a fully rule-based, single-strategy Expert Advisor for XAUUSD on the H1 timeframe, built around one specific, tested price-action pattern — not a stack of indicators, not a recovery system, not a black box.
The Logic, In Plain English
CBR watches gold build price channels: an ascending channel (higher highs, higher lows) or a descending channel (lower highs, lower lows), confirmed using swing fractals fitted with linear regression and filtered by fit quality (R²). It does not trade every touch of these channels, and it does not trade every breakout either. It waits specifically for:
- An ascending channel breaking DOWN through its lower trendline → SELL
- A descending channel breaking UP through its upper trendline → BUY
Continuation-direction breakouts (a channel breaking the same way it was already moving) were tested during development and deliberately excluded — they did not show a consistent edge. That is the point: this EA trades what was actually shown to work, not everything that looks plausible on a chart.
Built-In Risk Controls — No Martingale. No Grid.
- Stop-loss and take-profit are calculated dynamically from ATR, so they move with volatility instead of relying on fixed pip values that stop making sense the moment conditions change.
- A time-based exit closes trades that overstay their welcome without reaching target.
- An ATR-percentile volatility filter sits out unusually quiet, low-conviction conditions.
- A second, independent ATR-movement filter (read from its own timeframe) screens out both violent/erratic spikes and dead chop.
- Optional session filter to block a specific time window.
- Adjustable maximum concurrent trades, a spread guard, and a master trading kill-switch.
- Every position uses one fixed lot input — no martingale, no lot multiplication, no doubling down to "recover."

The screenshots on this page are taken directly from the MetaTrader Strategy Tester, covering the period February 1 – May 15, 2026: 23 trades, net profit $933.90, profit factor 4.72, maximum drawdown 26.25%, starting from a $200 test balance at 0.01 lot.
That was a strongly trending period for gold, and 23 trades is a small sample — that is the honest picture, not a sales pitch. Backtest results, however good, never guarantee future performance. What you are buying is a transparent, disciplined rule set that you can verify yourself — not a promise.
