MeanReversion Strategy

RSI(2) Mean Reversion is an implementation of a benchmark classic in quantitative trading: Larry Connors' mean-reversion strategy (from "Short Term Trading Strategies That Work", Connors & Cesari), on daily candles.

How it works:

The system first requires a trend filter: a 200-period simple moving average determines whether the market is in an uptrend or a downtrend. Longs are only sought while price is above that average (buying pullbacks in an uptrend), and shorts are only sought while price is below it (selling bounces in a downtrend) — both directions independently switchable. The entry trigger is an RSI(2) reading at an extreme: the lower for longs, or the higher for shorts, the stronger the historical edge according to the original research. The exit happens when price crosses back above (or below) a short 5-period moving average, or is forced after a configurable number of sessions if that condition never triggers.

On the stop loss - a deliberate decision, not an oversight:

This product does NOT place a fixed stop loss by default. Connors' own original research found that a fixed stop hurts the system's performance, cutting trades right before the expected bounce that would have made them profitable. An optional ATR-based emergency stop is included (off by default) for anyone who prefers a safety net against a structural pattern failure. Without it enabled, an individual trade's risk stays open until the exit condition triggers - understanding this before trading live is essential.

On the instrument - a recommendation grounded in real evidence, not assumptions:

The real, verifiable evidence behind this system is built on US equity indices, the S&P 500 in particular - not forex, not commodities. On instruments with strong, sustained trends (gold, oil, some tech-heavy indices) there is a documented risk of RSI getting "embedded" at an extreme for a long stretch while the trend continues, causing reversion signals to fail repeatedly. It is recommended to run this product on your broker's S&P 500 CFD/index (verify the exact symbol name), with Nasdaq or Dow Jones as a secondary option.

Configurable parameters:

- Trend moving average period and allowed direction(s)

- RSI period and oversold/overbought thresholds

- Exit moving average period and maximum holding sessions

- Optional ATR-based emergency stop (off by default)

- Risk per trade (% of equity) and the maximum allowed risk-overshoot factor

This product opens at most one position at a time (no pyramiding) and is designed for equity indices on daily candles.
