EMA ATR Breakout Indicator for MT5
The EMA ATR Breakout Indicator identifies momentum breakouts by combining ATR-based volatility bands with an EMA trend filter. The goal is to reduce low-quality signals during consolidation and highlight only those breakouts where volatility expansion and trend direction align.
How It Works
The indicator plots adaptive breakout bands derived from Average True Range, centered on a configurable moving average. When price closes beyond a band, the indicator checks a second condition: the close must also be on the correct side of an EMA trend filter. Only when both conditions are met does the indicator begin counting consecutive confirmation candles. A signal arrow appears only after the required number of consecutive closes is reached.
This sequence — band breach, EMA confirmation, consecutive close count — filters a large portion of the noise that affects simpler breakout tools.
Consecutive candle confirmation reduces false signals caused by wicks and single-bar spikes. The number of required candles is adjustable, allowing the indicator to be tuned from more responsive to more conservative depending on the timeframe and instrument.
Slope coloring on the central moving average gives a quick visual read of trend direction: rising (green), falling (red), or flat (blue).
Background fill between the MA and the ATR bands can be enabled to improve visual clarity of the trend zones.
Input Parameters

| EMA Filter Length | Period of the trend confirmation EMA. Lower values are more aggressive; higher values require a more established trend. |
| Confirm Candles | Number of consecutive closes required beyond the band before a signal is drawn. Higher values produce fewer but more filtered signals. |
| Show Background Fill | Enables shaded fill zones between the MA and ATR bands. |
| Show Labels | Toggles Long and Short text labels on the chart. |
| Long / Short Colors | Signal arrow color customization. |
| Bull Fill / Bear Fill Colors | Background fill color customization. |
Settings and Optimization
There is no universal setting that works across all instruments, sessions, and brokers. Performance depends on the timeframe, the instrument's typical volatility, and session behavior. Testing and adjusting inputs on historical data before live use is recommended.
