Pterodactylus is a MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor built for the relentless movement of XAUUSD.
Silent, calculated, eyes open, and unseen until after execution; prehistoric identity in modern automated trading.

EA overview:
This EA deploys a support/resistance strategy on the 30M XAUUSD chart combined with multiple entry validations, a trailing exit and clear risk control.
- Trades when relevant support/resistance (SR) levels are broken
- Leverages live price wakes left by real market makers
- Only trades during volatile market conditions in Europe and New York sessions
- Trades only when market is showing directional move with momentum
- Compares potential loss to potential profits based on market volatility and market RS level field
- Specifically built on market maker seller's behaviour, therefore this EA only takes shorts by default. You can turn on Buy orders with preset settings, but beware of consequences in your equity curve. Test this for yourself.
Fail-safe mechanisms:
- Spread check: Entries are canceled when spreads exceed a limit. (available user input)
- Slippage check: Fast markets, network latency and slower hardware can cause price to move between the original trade signal and submission of the order. Immediately before sending an order, Pterodactylus checks the current price again. The entry is discarded when the price has moved beyond the permitted deviation. (available user input)
- Margin based size reduction: Before submitting an order, the EA compares the required margin with the account's available free margin. If the originally calculated position size requires more margin than is available, the EA can reduce the trade size. (available user input)
- Minimum order distance check: When the trailing stop loss distance is smaller than the broker's minimum order distance, the EA adjusts to broker minimums instead of not moving the SL at all. (always on)
Account requirements & recommendations:
- Raw spreads / Low spreads / ECN / Razor account type
- Recommended leverage of 1:100
- Recommended deposit of $2000
- Minimum deposit of $500 for recommended leverage
- Minimum deposit of $2000 for lower leverage (EU)
Risk recommendations:
- Advised to start with risk mode "RISK_USD".
- For $2000 deposit, risk $100 per trade.
- Recommended advanced risk mode: "AUTO_RISK_USD" as preset.
This preset mode risks a total drawdown of 50% of the maximum account balance measured. Per trade, this settings risks $71.43 ($1000/14) for every thousand dollar in the account.
Prop firm recommendations:
If you'd like to use this EA on a prop firm, make sure to check the reliability of the prop firm (postal address, Trustpilot/PropFirmMatch/ForexPeaceArmy/etc. reviews). Also check their rules.
Be aware that sharing EA's on the MT5 market makes prop firms flag these strategies in a very short period of time.
Prop firm must have low spreads on XAUUSD and their demo servers should accurately represent live markets. Do not deploy on prop firm without backtesting on their demo servers.
Pterodactylus was not written for prop firms.
Backtesting:
- All backtests shown on this product page assume a 2 ms delay.
- This EA features a calculation speed simulator. The MetaTrader5 backtest module lets EAs calculate its results before continuing with new market data. In live markets, ticks are created while EA's can still be busy calculating the previous tick. This is most likely to happen in market volatility spikes during which this EA enters a position. Therefore, the EA calculation speed simulator tries to approximate the live calculation delay behaviour. There is always a slight difference in backtest and live results.
- For users with low-end devices, the Parallel Backtest Segmentation module allows for utilising multiple CPU cores by splitting the backtest date range into segments, through MT5's "Slow complete algorithm" optimization option.

- This EA does not contain grid or martingale methods. The EA is built on the developer's own discretionary trading logic translated into a rule-based algorithm.
- This EA will be widely capped at 2000 copies, renters (1 or more months) will keep their spot on the list just as buyers.
- The ping setting causes the EA to kill itself when ping exceeds 20 ms by default. If you are attaching the EA to a MT5 VPS through your local device, you can safely increase the "Maximum ms ping" setting under "Safety Settings" and then synchronize to your MT5 VPS.
- Only close this EA when no trades are open.
Future updates:
The first monthly rent purchases were successful. It is delightful to understand that people are willing to expand their experience with this EA. I have been using this EA privately for a long time now.
Since the EA is now shared with traders from diverse backgrounds, I will roll out updates when there is decent ask/necessity:
- GMT adjusting trading hours. Current trading hours are 09:00 - 20:00 GMT+2 (or GMT+3, DST dependent). This should be adjusted to fit the user's broker's server timezone automatically.
