Zipzap – News Spike Scalper for Gold (XAUUSD)
Zipzap is built to catch the sudden, fast moves that Gold makes around major news. It places a Buy Stop and a Sell Stop around the price, follows the market with both orders, and lets whichever side the market chooses become your trade. The other order is cancelled automatically. A trailing stop then follows the move, and a profit lock stops a winning trade from turning into a loss.

How it works
- Straddle entry. A Buy Stop and a Sell Stop sit a set distance (Entry Gap) from the current price.
- Re-centring. As price drifts, both orders move with it so they stay the same distance away.
- One side fills, the other is cancelled. You never hold both directions by accident.
- Initial stop loss. Every trade starts with a fixed stop (default 500 points).
- Trailing stop. Once the trade is in profit, the stop trails behind price (default 50 points).
- Profit lock. A trade that has been in profit cannot fall back into a loss.
Key features
- Made for news and spikes on Gold. It is designed for high-impact events when price moves fast.
- Your own lot size. One input sets the lot size, and the EA fits it to your broker’s minimum, maximum and step.
- Adaptive trailing stop. During big news candles, the trailing gap widens (up to a limit you set) so normal pullbacks inside a spike don’t stop you out early. In quiet markets it uses the tight fixed gap.
- Profit lock. A trade that has moved far enough into profit keeps its stop at or above entry plus a small buffer, and at least a set fraction of the best profit reached.
- Smart “slow market” filter. The EA stays out when candles are tiny. A sudden large candle or tick-volume burst switches it to active within moments, and it stays active for a few bars.
- Two entry styles.
- Stop orders (default): Buy Stop + Sell Stop, one side fills.
- Both-market (hedging accounts only): opens a buy and a sell together and closes the loser once one leg is far enough in profit.
- Optional fixed take profit. Set it to 0 to use trailing only.
- Daily loss limit. The EA stops trading for the day when its own loss reaches your chosen percentage of the starting balance (default 10%). It ignores other EAs and manual trades on the account.
- Max trades per day. Optional cap.
- Spread filter. Optional cap so it doesn’t trade when the spread is too wide.
- On-chart info panel. Shows status, symbol, spread, balance, open positions, trades today, lot size, entry gap, stop settings and open P/L.
- Broker-safe. It respects stop and freeze levels, limits how often it sends modifications, backs off after a failed request, and checks free margin before placing orders.
- Startup diagnostics. The Experts log reports account type, AutoTrading status, broker limits, margin needed, and the money lost if the initial stop is hit.
When Zipzap pauses (no new orders)
The panel shows the reason. Zipzap pauses when:
- Daily loss limit reached – the EA’s loss for the day hit your set percentage.
- Max trades per day reached – if you set a limit.
- Spread too wide – if you set a maximum spread.
- Slow market – recent candles are too small and no spike has been detected.
- Not enough margin – free margin can’t cover the order at your lot size.
Pending orders are removed while it is paused. Open trades keep being managed (trailing stop and profit lock) even when it is paused.
Recommended setup
- Symbol: XAUUSD (Gold)
- Timeframe: M1–M5 is a sensible start; the filter timeframe is adjustable.
- Account: Any MT5 account. A hedging account is needed only for the both-market entry style.
- Broker: A low-spread, ECN-type broker is best for news trading.
- Lot size: Start small (such as 0.01) and scale up only after testing.

Important notes
- Trading Gold around news carries high risk. Spreads can widen sharply, slippage can occur, and stop orders may fill at worse prices during spikes.
- Test on a demo account or in the Strategy Tester before using real money.
- Past results do not guarantee future performance.
- Zipzap does not use martingale or grid averaging. Each trade has a stop loss.

Trading Trade-Offs & Risk Notes
• News Leverage Restrictions: Many brokers automatically restrict leverage (often down to 1:200 or 1:500) from 15 minutes before high-impact economic news until 5 minutes after.
This is why these margins are significantly higher than your normal trading hours.
• Floating Prices: Because XAUUSD margin is calculated dynamically using the formula (Lot Size × Contract Size × Market Price) / Leverage, these values will fluctuate slightly along with the real-time spot price of gold
