ORP Oscillator

ORP Oscillator is a free custom indicator for MetaTrader 5, developed around XAUUSD analysis. It displays directional balance through two smooth curves on a fixed scale from −100 to +100, with all intersections occurring at the central zero line.

The indicator combines recent price movement with a measure of how observed pullbacks recover. It is a visual analysis tool and does not open, manage or close trades.

How to read the oscillator

• Green above zero: the calculated bullish strength exceeds bearish strength.
• Magenta above zero: the calculated bearish strength exceeds bullish strength.
• Both curves at zero: the two underlying strengths are equal.
• Increasing separation: the observed directional imbalance is increasing.
• Decreasing separation: the imbalance is narrowing.

The curves are mirrored representations of the same balance. They are not independent confirmations. The original bullish and bearish strength values remain available in the MT5 Data Window.

Crossovers on the price chart

A green dot below a price candle marks a bullish crossover. A magenta dot above a price candle marks a bearish crossover.

The dots follow the selected line colors. A touch without a change in directional dominance does not produce a new crossover signal.

Early signals during the current candle

By default, a provisional crossover dot can appear during the final 20% of a candle:

• M1: the final 12 seconds.
• M5: the final minute.
• M15: the final 3 minutes.
• H1: the final 12 minutes.

The current candle’s values and dot can change or disappear before the candle closes. This is intentional: early signals are provisional, not fixed signals.

Historical dots show crossovers calculated from closed candles. They do not reconstruct every early signal that appeared and disappeared during those candles.

Smooth curves

Graphical rounding produces smooth connections between candle values without adding another moving average or changing the crossover calculation. The interpolation preserves the central symmetry and does not introduce additional intersections.

Supported timeframes

The indicator supports all standard MT5 chart timeframes, from M1 to MN1. Calculation periods are expressed in bars, so changing the timeframe changes the time horizon being analyzed.

Main settings

• InpRemainingPercent — Final percentage of the candle during which provisional signals are allowed. Default: 20.
• InpCurvedLines — Enables rounded curves.
• InpCurveSoftness — Controls graphical rounding from 0 to 100. This setting changes the appearance, not the calculated values.
• InpShowCrossDots — Shows or hides crossover dots.
• InpDotSize — Controls dot size.
• InpDotOffsetTR — Controls the distance between each dot and its price candle.
• InpDriveBars — Number of bars used to assess recent movement.
• InpSmoothBars — Smoothing period for the calculated strengths. Unlike graphical rounding, this setting can change crossover timing.
• InpResilienceWeight — Weight assigned to pullback-recovery behavior.

Additional settings control volatility measurement, recovery observation, context classification and estimated trading costs. Cost assumptions should be adjusted to the actual trading account.

Usage notes

Attach the indicator to an XAUUSD chart and select the desired timeframe. No DLLs or automated-trading permission are required.

Early signals require an active connection and recent symbol quotes. The indicator suppresses provisional signals when quotes are stale or the candle’s scheduled duration has expired.

The oscillator describes observed price behavior. Its values are not probabilities, and a crossover does not guarantee a reversal, continuation or profitable trade.
