SmartTrail is a trade-management utility for MetaTrader 5. You choose when to enter a trade and where to place the initial Stop Loss. SmartTrail then manages the open position according to your risk/reward (R) levels: moving Stop Loss, applying optional partial closes and closing the position at a defined final R target.
It does not generate trade entry signals. Outside Strategy Tester, it does not open new trades automatically.
HOW IT WORKS
The initial distance between entry and Stop Loss defines 1R. Configure up to 15 independent management levels. For each enabled level, specify:
- The R threshold that activates the level
- The new Stop Loss position, measured in R
- An optional percentage of the position to close
For example, you can reduce the original risk by moving Stop Loss to -0.5R, move it to breakeven at a later threshold, then move it into positive R. You decide which levels are active and when they trigger.

INITIAL STOP LOSS
To calculate R, each managed position needs an initial Stop Loss. Either place your Stop Loss when you open the trade, or intentionally enable the Auto SL input. With Auto SL disabled and no Stop Loss, R-based management cannot begin.
PARTIAL CLOSE
Partial close percentages are set to 0% by default, so you must configure a nonzero percentage to activate the feature. The amount actually closed depends on minimum trade volume, volume step and execution rules of your broker. Some percentages may be too small for a given position size.
TEST BEFORE BUYING
Use the MQL5 demo in MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester with Visualization enabled. The built-in tester demonstration can open an example BUY or SELL with an initial Stop Loss, so you can observe how the management levels work on historical prices. The demonstration controls operate only in Strategy Tester. Reaching an R target depends on market price movement, and not every level will be reached in every test.
QUICK START
1. Attach SmartTrail to an MT5 chart and enable algorithmic trading.
2. Set the R thresholds, Stop Loss targets and any desired partial-close percentages.
3. Open a trade manually with an initial Stop Loss, or enable Auto SL deliberately.
4. Keep the terminal running to allow ongoing trade management.

**Try this example in MT5 Strategy Tester:**
Open the EA settings (Inputs) and configure Level 1:
* **Detect manually moved SL:** `true`
* **Automatically put SL:** `false`
* **N1 - Enable:** `true`
* **N1 - If reaches in R:** `0.8`
* **N1 - Move SL to R:** `-0.4`
* **N1 - Take partial of volume:** `20.0`
**What happens at +0.8R?**
SmartTrail attempts to:
* Close 20% of the open position to realize partial profit.
* Move the Stop Loss on the remaining position to -0.4R, reducing its original price-based risk by 60%.
* Continue managing the remaining position according to your configured levels.
