OIL Surge Break trades WTI crude oil (USOIL) H1 swing breakouts with 11 built-in strategies, pausing around US releases. 0.01 lot per order, a stop loss on every order, no martingale, no averaging down. 2025.08-2026.09 real-tick backtest with default inputs: PF 1.29, max equity drawdown 0.8% on $5,300. Reproducible: same inputs, same period, your own tester.
What it does
The EA contains 20 breakout strategies on different swing horizons; 11 run by default (Inp_StrategiesToRun). Each places buy stop and sell stop orders at levels derived from recent swing highs and lows, with a stop loss and take profit on every order. The lot per order is weight x 0.001 x balance / Inp_BalanceUnit, capped at 0.01 (Inp_MaxLots) and never below your broker's minimum lot, so with the defaults every order is 0.01 lot. The total lots open in one direction are capped at 0.25 per Inp_BalanceUnit of balance. It trades between Monday 01:10 and Friday 22:50 server time, deletes unfilled orders daily at 23:10, and pauses around US releases (payrolls, CPI, FOMC, EIA crude inventories and weekly jobless claims). No averaging down, no martingale.
Version 1.22 does not change the strategies. It checks your broker's order-count limit, volume limit and stop distance before each order, so an order the server would refuse is skipped with a journal message instead of being sent.
Why you can trust the numbers
Every figure on this page comes from one routine you can repeat:
- Tester and data: MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, "Every tick based on real ticks", history quality 100%.
- Broker, symbol, period: Tradexfin Limited (XMTrading), OILCash# H1, 2025.08.01 - 2026.09.25, the whole period with real oil ticks on that broker.
- Account: initial deposit $5,300, leverage 1:100, default inputs (nothing optimised on this window).
- Three runs, median shown: three runs with random execution delay; the run with the median profit factor is shown. Profit factor of the three runs: 1.28 - 1.36; maximum equity drawdown of the three runs: $39 - $43.
If your run differs, post your broker and report in the Comments tab.

| Average win / average loss | $0.71 / $1.25 |
| Longest losing streak | 7 trades |
| Most positions open at once | 8 (median when a new position opens: 2) |

By year (net profit / profit factor / trades):
| 2025 | -$10 | 0.65 | 97 |

2025 is partial (from 2025.08.01); 2026 is partial (to 2026.09.25).
Long and short trades (same report, split from its deal history):

Requirements
- USOIL (WTI crude, your broker's symbol name), H1 chart, one chart. Hedging account.
- Recommended deposit: $5,300 (the deposit used in the test above). The lot and the direction cap scale with balance, so the drawdown cannot be restated for another deposit by simple division.
- A VPS running 24/5.
Risks
- Short test period: the test covers only 2025.08.01 - 2026.09.25, the period with real oil ticks on the test broker. About 14 months, 339 trades; judge it as such.
- The recommended deposit matters: the direction cap scales with balance, and the same period tested with $2,000 allowed fewer positions and ended with a small loss.
- Losing runs: win rate 69.6%, average loss larger than average win ($1.25 against $0.71). The longest losing streak in the test was 7 trades. Up to 8 positions were open at once.
- Contract differences: oil CFD contracts differ between brokers (contract size, cash vs. rolling futures, swaps). Check your broker's USOIL specification.
- News filter in the tester: in live trading the news filter uses the MQL5 economic calendar. In the Strategy Tester it reads a CSV file (Inp_NewsCsvFile); without that file your own backtest runs without the news filter and prints a journal line saying so, so it will differ from the test above.
- Tester on other symbols: the EA is built for crude oil. In the Strategy Tester on any other symbol the strategies stay off, and the EA opens one minimum-lot check trade with stop loss and take profit and closes it after an hour, so the tester has a completed trade to report. If your broker's oil symbol has an unusual name (without OIL, WTI, XTI, XBR, BRENT or CRUDE in it), set Inp_TesterOilOnly = false to backtest it. None of this applies on oil symbols or on demo and live accounts.
- Tick data note: the report shows history quality 100%, but the tester log shows that for 0.2% of minute bars the real ticks did not match the bar prices; the tester generated ticks for those minutes.

Where it sits in the lineup
Gold (XAUUSD), from one behaviour to the full set:
- Gold Swing Break MT5: one H4 swing breakout, one position at a time, low frequency.
- Gold Flash Scalper MT5: 32-hour channel breakout, one position at a time, fast trailing stop. The entry point for small accounts.
- Triple Trigger MT5: breakouts of the 24, 48 and 72-hour rolling high/low, trailing exits.
- Gold Nine Layer: a nine-slot pivot-breakout group on one chart (7 slots active in the default tables).
- Gold Grand Line MT5: 6 groups on one chart, 29 active facets. It contains the Gold Nine Layer, Gold Swing Break and Gold Flash Scalper engines (same rules and tables) plus three groups that are not sold separately on MQL5. Triple Trigger is not part of it.
Other markets:
- OIL Surge Break MT5: WTI crude oil (USOIL) H1 swing breakouts.
- Relay Grid MT5: AUDNZD / AUDCAD / NZDCAD mean-reversion grid whose lot grows with each level, no stop loss by default. The only grid in the lineup; every other EA above trades 0.01 lot per order with no averaging down and no martingale.
Utility:
- Adaptive Closer MT5 (free): manage all open positions on a symbol as one book from a chart panel.
