Quantified Trendline Strength (QTS)

Overview
Quantified Trendline Strength is a technical analysis tool that automatically detects and evaluates trendlines based on price swing structures. It provides a visual and quantitative way to understand how significant each trendline may be, allowing traders to make more structured observations of market behavior.

Indicator Type

  • Purpose: Identify and evaluate trendlines, support, and resistance levels

Concept and Function

The indicator analyzes price swings within a defined historical range to identify potential trendlines connecting swing highs and swing lows.
Each detected line is then scored on a numerical scale (0–100) according to several measurable factors:

  • Number of price touches on the line

  • Distance of each touch relative to an ATR-based threshold

  • Line duration and angle

  • Proximity of the line to current price

  • Break-and-retest behavior

  • Alignment with the overall moving average direction

The scoring system is adaptive, meaning it can adjust automatically to recent volatility levels when enabled.

Signal Interpretation

  • Strong Trendline (Gold Line): Strength above 70 — may represent a well-tested level of support or resistance.

  • Moderate Trendline (Blue Line): Strength between 40 and 70 — level of intermediate importance.

  • Weak Trendline (Gray Line): Strength below 40 — less significant, optional for display.

  • Green Markers: Indicate points where a line has been broken and retested.

Users can observe how price interacts with these lines to assess potential areas of support, resistance, or structure shifts.
The indicator itself does not generate buy or sell orders; it serves as a visual analysis tool for discretionary or rule-based trading systems.

    Practical Application

    Quantified Trendline Strength can be used in combination with other analytical tools:

    • Momentum Indicators (RSI, MACD): For confirmation of potential trend continuation or reversal near a strong line.

    • Candlestick Patterns: To identify reaction signals at a specific level.

    • Moving Averages: To observe whether detected lines align with broader market trends.

    • Volume or Volatility Tools: To evaluate price behavior around major levels.

    This indicator is designed to complement broader analysis methods rather than act as a standalone trading system.
