HighwayStar

HighwayStar is an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 that trades USDJPY and EURJPY from a single chart.

It runs several independent short-term methods based on the time of day and the calendar of the Japanese market. Each method has its own entry window and its own exit rule. Most positions are held for minutes to a few hours.

Trading frequency: in the 2016-2026 backtest the EA opened about 100 positions per month on average (about 59 on USDJPY and 41 on EURJPY).

There is no grid and no martingale. The order size is never increased to recover a loss.

How to use

• Attach the EA to one USDJPY or EURJPY chart, H1 timeframe. It trades both USDJPY and EURJPY from that chart.
• Symbol names with a prefix or suffix (for example USDJPY.r) are detected from the chart symbol. They can also be entered manually in the inputs.
• Operation on a chart of any other symbol is not supported and its behaviour is not guaranteed.

Requirements

• MetaTrader 5, hedging account.
• USDJPY and EURJPY available in Market Watch.
• A VPS or an always-on machine is recommended.
• A raw-spread (ECN) account is recommended. Entries are skipped while the spread is above the "Max spread" input.
• Broker server time: the defaults (GMT+2 in winter, GMT+3 in summer, US DST) fit most MetaTrader 5 brokers. Change them only if your broker uses a different server time.

Lot size

Each method has its own lot coefficient, so the methods do not all trade the same size. The order size is:

order size = base lot x method coefficient x Multiplier

• Auto lot by balance = false (default): base lot = "Fixed lot" (default 0.01).
• Auto lot by balance = true: base lot = 0.01 per "Balance per 0.01 lot" of account balance. With the default of 1000, a balance of 1,000 USD gives 0.01, 5,000 USD gives 0.05 and 10,000 USD gives 0.10. The balance is the closed balance; floating profit and loss is not counted.
• Multiplier (default 1.0) scales all methods together.
• The result is rounded down to your broker's lot step and is never below the broker's minimum lot.

• Symbol prefix / Symbol suffix (empty = taken from the chart symbol)
• Winter GMT offset (2), Summer GMT offset (3), DST rule (US)
• Auto lot by balance (false), Balance per 0.01 lot (1000), Multiplier (1.0), Fixed lot (0.01)
• Magic number USDJPY (7700771), Magic number EURJPY (7700871). Change them if another EA on the same account uses the same numbers.
• Slippage in pips (5), Max spread in pips (5.0)
