LeMan Chanel Dynamic Volatility Channel for MT5

The LeMan Chanel is a lightweight, highly responsive price channel indicator designed to help traders identify dynamic support and resistance levels, track market volatility, and catch powerful price breakouts. Originally a popular tool in MT4, this indicator has been fully rewritten and optimized for the MetaTrader 5 ecosystem.

Unlike traditional envelope indicators that simply use moving average deviations, LeMan Chanel calculates the actual maximum bullish and bearish price excursions over a given period, offering a highly adaptive channel that respects recent price action.

How It Works
The indicator's logic is built on raw price momentum rather than smoothed averages. It operates in three steps:

1. Measures Excursions: It calculates the distance between the current High and the previous Close (bullish excursion), and the previous Close and current Low (bearish excursion).

2. Finds the Extremes: It looks back over the last N periods to find the absolute maximum bullish and bearish excursions.

3. Projects Forward: It adds the maximum bullish excursion to the current Close (Upper Band) and subtracts the maximum bearish excursion from the current Close (Lower Band). Crucially, the indicator is shifted forward by 1 period, turning these calculations into predictive support/resistance targets for the next forming candlestick.

How to Trade with LeMan Chanel

• Breakout Trading: A candle closing strongly outside the channel boundaries often signals the start of a new, highly volatile trend.

• Dynamic Support/Resistance: In ranging markets, the upper and lower lines serve as excellent areas to look for mean-reversion trades (fading the edges).

• Trailing Stop-Loss: The lower band (in an uptrend) or upper band (in a downtrend) can be used as a mechanical trailing stop-loss level that adapts strictly to recent market volatility.

Input Parameters

• N (Default: 12) - Calculation Period: The number of historical bars the indicator evaluates to find the maximum price excursions.

  • Tip: Decrease N (e.g., 5-8) for a tighter, more sensitive channel (ideal for day trading). Increase N (e.g., 20-24) for a wider, smoother channel (ideal for swing trading and filtering out market noise).

Customization
The visual style of the indicator (colors, line thickness, and line styles) can be fully customized directly from the MT5 indicator properties window to fit any chart template or background color.
