FridayGap Trader
FridayGap Trader is a professional-grade MetaTrader 5 indicator engineered specifically to detect, measure, and visualize the price gap that forms between the Friday closing price and the Monday opening price on any forex or CFD instrument. These weekend gaps are among the most consistently exploitable recurring patterns in financial markets, driven by news events, geopolitical developments, and institutional repositioning that occur while retail markets are closed. FridayGap Trader gives traders a complete, data-driven view of every gap event directly on the chart, removing the need to manually scan for them or rely on memory.
The indicator draws a precision dashed line at the exact Friday close price level and a second line at the Monday open, immediately making the gap boundaries visible at a glance. Between these two levels a shaded zone rectangle fills the gap area, colored green for bullish gaps where price opened above the Friday close and red for bearish gaps where price opened below it. Each gap is labeled with the direction, the exact size in pips, and a rating classification of Small, Medium, Large, or Extra Large based on configurable thresholds, so traders can instantly filter meaningful gaps from insignificant ones.
FridayGap Trader includes an intelligent fill detection engine that scans forward up to 200 bars after each Monday open to determine whether price subsequently returned to close the gap. Filled gaps are automatically dimmed on the chart and tagged with a filled status marker, while open unfilled gaps remain fully highlighted. This allows traders to build immediate visual intuition about how gaps behave on their specific instrument and timeframe.
The built-in statistics panel sits in the upper right corner of the chart inside a fully opaque, professionally styled box that remains readable on any chart color scheme, whether dark, white, or custom. It displays the total number of gaps detected in the scanned history, the count of filled and open gaps, the fill rate as a percentage with color coding that shifts from red to yellow to green as the rate improves, the average gap size in pips, and the largest gap ever recorded in the history window. These statistics update automatically with every new bar and give traders a quantitative foundation for gap-based strategy development.
All visual elements are individually toggleable through the input parameters, including the Friday line, Monday line, gap zone, pip label, gap rating tag, fill status marker, and the statistics panel itself. Line colors, widths, styles, font sizes, panel background and border colors are all fully customizable. The indicator also fires a native MT5 alert the moment a new qualifying gap is detected on the most recent weekend, with the gap direction and pip size included in the alert message. A minimum gap size filter prevents noise from trivial spread-related gaps from cluttering the chart. The indicator works on all timeframes and all symbols available in the MT5 terminal and is optimized to avoid unnecessary recalculation, only refreshing the display when a new bar forms.
