Tokyo Drive – USDJPY Session Breakout Trading
Tokyo Drive is an automated USDJPY trading system built around a structured session-based approach: use the Tokyo session to define the market range, then look for controlled breakout opportunities during the London trading window.
Instead of constantly entering the market or relying on excessive indicator combinations, Tokyo Drive builds a daily range, establishes directional bias, waits for price confirmation and then manages the trade with disciplined risk controls and swing-based trailing logic.
The EA is designed specifically for USDJPY and combines session timing, breakout confirmation, adaptive spread protection, advanced news filtering and structured trade management in one automated system.

Session-Based Trading
Tokyo Drive separates the trading day into two distinct stages.
The Tokyo session is used to establish the daily trading range.
The London session is then used as the active execution window, allowing the EA to focus on a period where USDJPY liquidity and volatility can increase.
The same established daily range can be used for multiple breakout opportunities, up to the user-defined maximum number of trades.
Swing-Based Trade Management
Tokyo Drive uses confirmed market structure to manage profitable positions.
For BUY positions, the trailing stop follows confirmed swing lows.
For SELL positions, it follows confirmed swing highs.
The trailing stop will only move further in the profitable direction. It will never deliberately widen an existing stop or move a trailing stop into a losing position.
Users can configure:
- Swing Strength
- Trailing Swing Buffer
- Minimum Swing Trail Distance
Swing Strength controls how strongly a swing must be confirmed:
- 1 = 3-bar confirmed swing
- 2 = 5-bar confirmed swing
- 3 = 7-bar confirmed swing
If a confirmed swing would place the Stop Loss too close to the current market price, the EA simply ignores that swing and waits for a more suitable structure.
Adaptive Spread Protection
Tokyo Drive continuously monitors current spread conditions relative to the recent normal spread.
When spread becomes unusually high, new trade activity can be restricted until conditions return to acceptable levels.
This helps reduce exposure during abnormal execution conditions, rollover periods and temporary liquidity disruptions.
Advanced Economic News Protection
Tokyo Drive includes an integrated economic news system with multiple data-source options.
The native MetaTrader 5 Economic Calendar is the default, requiring no additional WebRequest configuration.
An external economic calendar source is also available, together with an automatic fallback mode for additional resilience.
News management is integrated directly into the Tokyo Drive dashboard. From the panel you can quickly:
- Enable or disable news protection
- Switch between Native and External news sources
- Open or collapse the upcoming News Events window
- See upcoming events, impact levels and countdowns at a glance
High, Medium and Low impact events can be configured individually according to your preferred trading restrictions.
Protection windows before and after economic events can also be adjusted.
Tokyo Drive supports currency-aware filtering so the system can focus on events relevant to the symbol being traded.
External News Source
If you choose the External news source, enable WebRequest in:
Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → Allow WebRequest for listed URL
Add:
No WebRequest configuration is required when using the default native MetaTrader 5 Economic Calendar.
Flexible Risk Management
Tokyo Drive supports two position-sizing methods:
- Fixed Lot Size
- Risk Percentage
Additional protection controls can be used to manage account exposure, including:
- Maximum daily loss
- Maximum total equity drawdown
- Daily profit target
- Maximum trades per day
- Maximum consecutive losing trades
- Time-based stop-new-trades controls
- Friday trading restrictions
These controls can also be useful for traders operating under prop-firm or trading-challenge rules.
