If you choose the External news source, WebRequest must be enabled in MetaTrader 5.
Go to:
Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → Allow WebRequest for listed URL
Add:
No WebRequest configuration is required when using the default Native MT5 Economic Calendar.
For most users, the native calendar can simply be left selected.
