Trading isn't just about whether the price is going up or down; it's about how it is moving. The DPO is a structural indicator that neutralizes the underlying trend to isolate the market's pure cyclic component.

What is the DPO, really?

Mathematically, the DPO measures the distance between the current price and its moving average.

  • It doesn't follow direction: It measures speed and acceleration.

  • The "Detrending" concept: By subtracting the trend (the average), the indicator "flattens" the price. This allows you to see if the current movement is accelerating or if it's starting to lose steam relative to its own average.

An Honest Reading of the Signals (The Power of Colors)

The addition of the visual filling (Green/Red) isn't there to predict direction, but to visualize Cyclic Momentum:

  • The Green Cloud (Outperformance): The price is progressing faster than its average. The cycle is in full expansion.

  • The Red Cloud (Underperformance): The price is slowing down or correcting.

    • Caution: As you will observe, in a strong trend, the price can continue to rise while the cloud turns red. This means the rally is slowing: the price is still higher, but it is "losing mathematical energy."

  • The Zero Line (Equilibrium): This is the point where the price is in perfect harmony with its average. Any deviation from this line is an imbalance that will eventually be corrected.

How to Use it for High Reliability (The 80% Target)

To reach a high success rate, the DPO must be used as a precision filter rather than a standalone signal:

  1. Timing Pullbacks: In a confirmed uptrend, don't buy when the cloud is bright green (the price is too "expensive" relative to its average). Wait for the DPO to turn red (breathing phase) and buy the moment it flips back to green.

  2. Detecting Divergences: This is its most powerful function. If the price hits a new high, but the green cloud's peak is lower than the previous one, the market is warning you: the rally is no longer supported by a real cycle. The risk of a reversal is high.

  3. Exit Alerts: A red flip during a rally isn't necessarily a "short" signal, but it is the technical signal to tighten your stop-loss or take partial profits.
