AlphaDesk Heikin Ashi Trend Channel MTF is a chart indicator for MetaTrader 5. It calculates Heikin Ashi on one timeframe of your choice and shows that trend direction on the chart you are working on.
The usual workflow is to open a higher timeframe to read the trend, then return to a lower timeframe to look for an entry. This indicator removes that switch. You keep your working chart open, and the higher timeframe Heikin Ashi bias is drawn on it continuously.
The indicator draws three things:
- A close line, which represents the Heikin Ashi close of the selected timeframe.
- An upper and a lower channel, built from the Heikin Ashi high and low of the same timeframe.
- Colour on all lines, which follows the Heikin Ashi trend direction.
Green means the Heikin Ashi close is at or above the Heikin Ashi open. Red means the opposite.
HOW IT WORKS
Heikin Ashi values are calculated from the open, high, low and close of each bar on the selected calculation timeframe. The trend state of each higher timeframe bar is then applied to every chart bar inside that period.
The calculation is aligned by time, so each chart bar receives the state of the higher timeframe bar that was active at that moment. No repainting of historical bars occurs when the chart is reloaded.
The bias of the current, still forming higher timeframe bar can change until that bar closes. This is normal for any higher timeframe tool.
INPUTS
Calculation timeframe - the timeframe used for Heikin Ashi calculation. Default is H4. The chart timeframe can be anything, including timeframes lower than the calculation timeframe.
Show channel - draws or hides the upper and lower channel. When the channel is hidden, the close line remains visible.
Force chart to line mode - switches the chart to line mode. This gives a clean directional view, because the indicator itself is line based. The option is off by default.
HOW TO USE
1. Set the calculation timeframe to the timeframe that defines your bias, for example H4 or D1.
2. Keep your working chart on a lower timeframe, for example M15 or M5.
3. Read direction from the colour of the close line.
4. Use the channel as a visual range of the higher timeframe leg. Price returning to the channel gives a reference area for a pullback.
5. Take entries with your own method and your own risk rules.
The indicator is a visual filter. It does not produce buy or sell signals, alerts or trade calls.
PRACTICAL NOTES
- Works on any symbol and any chart timeframe.
- The chart timeframe may be lower than the calculation timeframe.
- Only one indicator instance is needed per chart.
- Historical values are recalculated on load, so the display is consistent after a restart.
