RMT Session Breakout is an Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5 that trades one published rule: the high and low of a time window you choose form a box, the first bar that closes outside it opens one position with the stop on the other side of the box, and every position is closed at a flat time you set. Every decision, including every skipped day, is written to the journal with its reason.
The rule, in full
- Between InpRangeStart and InpRangeEnd (server time) the EA records the highest high and lowest low of the closed bars: that is the box of the day.
- After the window, the first bar that closes above the box (plus InpEntryBufferPts) opens a buy; below it, a sell. Only until InpLastEntry.
- Stop loss: the other side of the box, or its middle (InpStopMode). Take profit: InpRewardRisk times the stop distance.
- At most InpEntriesPerDay entries a day. Days whose box is smaller than InpMinRangePts or larger than InpMaxRangePts are skipped.
- At InpFlatTime every position of this EA is closed. If the broker refuses the close (for example a freeze level near the stop), the EA tries again every 15 seconds until the close is accepted, and closes on the first tick any position left from a previous day.
There is no grid, no martingale, no averaging, no hidden filter. The box is drawn on the chart.
Why a decision journal
Most EAs that open nothing leave you guessing. This one prints a line whenever its reason changes, for example:
RSB WHY: waiting for the range window 07:00-10:00 (server time), RSB WHY: range 1.08412 - 1.08655 | price inside the range: waiting for a bar to close outside, RSB DECISION: rejected SPREAD, RSB DECISION: blocked (FIREWALL_BLOCK), RSB DECISION: flat time: close sent for 1 own position(s).
Risk and execution
- Position size from the risk percent of equity (or a fixed lot), using the terminal's own profit calculation for the entry and the stop (OrderCalcProfit). If the terminal cannot calculate it, the entry is refused; if the smallest lot would risk more than the set percent, the entry is refused and the journal says so.
- Every order is sent with its stop loss and take profit. A stop inside the broker's minimum distance is refused, not moved.
- Daily-loss and drawdown stops, maximum spread, rollover window and the MetaTrader news calendar (live charts only) gate new entries.
- It manages only its own magic number. After a terminal restart it restores its state and does not repeat an entry already made that day.
- It honours the block published by RMT Capital Firewall in the same terminal: no new entries while the Firewall is latched; exits are still carried out.
What it is and is not
It is rule automation with a visible reason for every action. It is not a promise of profit. With default settings the rule lost a little or broke even in the Strategy Tester on EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY and XAUUSD between January 2023 and September 2026; results depend on the symbol, the box times, the broker and the costs. Test it yourself in the Strategy Tester and on a demo account first.
Requirements
MetaTrader 5, hedging account, Algo Trading enabled. Times are server time; daylight-saving shifts are the user's to adjust. Tested on a hedging demo account (MetaQuotes-Demo) with EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY and XAUUSD; netting accounts, indices, stocks and crypto are not certified. No DLLs, no WebRequest.
Leveraged trading involves risk of loss.
