Kiwi Crystal Edge MT5
Kiwi Crystal Edge MT5 is an automated Heikin Ashi grid Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5.
The EA contains its own Crystal Heikin Ashi calculation, so no separate indicator installation is required. It identifies completed-candle direction changes, applies the selected entry filters and manages each trading sequence as one coordinated basket.
If price moves against the initial position, the EA can add fixed-volume recovery positions at configured grid intervals.
Recommended setup
- Platform: MetaTrader 5
- Default signal timeframe: M15
- Default higher timeframe: H1
- Default entry profile: Normal
- Account type: Hedging account recommended
- Trading permission: Algorithmic trading must be enabled
- Initial use: Demo testing is recommended
The EA can be attached to a chart while using its internally selected signal timeframe. Broker symbol specifications, spreads, commissions, swaps and execution conditions can affect operation and results.

Crystal Heikin Ashi signals
The EA calculates Crystal Heikin Ashi values internally and evaluates the selected signal timeframe for a confirmed direction change.
A new initial trade can be considered when:
- A bullish or bearish Crystal direction change is confirmed.
- The signal candle has closed.
- The selected entry profile accepts the setup.
- The optional higher-timeframe condition is satisfied.
- Spread, margin, session and trading-permission checks allow the entry.
Heikin Ashi candles use calculated values and do not represent directly tradable market prices. A confirmed colour or direction change is a rule-based signal, not a guarantee of a market reversal.
Closed-candle processing
Trading signals are calculated from completed candles.
This reduces changes caused by an unfinished candle, but it also means signals are confirmed only after the relevant candle closes. Price may already have moved away from the original reversal area before an entry is processed.
Closed-candle confirmation cannot guarantee that the new direction will continue.
Entry profiles
Three entry profiles are available.
Frequent
Considers an entry immediately after a confirmed bullish or bearish Crystal direction change.
This profile may produce more signals and can increase trading activity.
Normal
Waits for the first qualifying strong Crystal confirmation candle after the detected direction change.
Normal is the default profile.
Conservative
Requires stronger Crystal confirmation together with additional higher-timeframe agreement.
This profile may produce fewer entries. More filtering does not guarantee better results in every market condition.
Higher-timeframe confirmation
The optional higher-timeframe filter compares the entry setup with Crystal Heikin Ashi conditions from a broader timeframe.
The default higher timeframe is H1.
When enabled, the filter can block an initial trade if the higher-timeframe condition does not agree with the signal direction. It controls initial entry qualification but cannot predict future trend continuation.
Trading directions
Users can select:
- Buy and sell
- Buy only
- Sell only
Changing the permitted direction controls new trading activity. It does not necessarily close an existing basket.
Crystal Grid basket
After an initial position opens, the EA manages the associated positions as one Crystal Basket.
If price moves against the basket by the configured grid distance, the EA can add another fixed-volume position in the same direction. This can continue until:
- The basket target is reached
- Drawdown protection is activated
- Recovery protection pauses additions
- The maximum-position limit is reached
- Trading conditions prevent another order
Grid trading can increase total exposure, margin usage and floating drawdown during a sustained adverse price movement.
Fixed-volume recovery
Recovery positions use the basket’s configured trade volume rather than automatically increasing volume at every grid level.
Fixed-volume recovery avoids a progressive lot multiplier, but each additional position still increases total basket volume and financial exposure.
For example, ten positions of 0.01 lot represent greater total exposure than one position of 0.01 lot.
Volume-weighted basket target
The EA calculates a volume-weighted average entry from all positions in the basket.
The combined exit target is then determined from this weighted entry and the configured basket-target distance. When the programmed target conditions are satisfied, the EA attempts to close the managed basket.
The actual realised result may differ because of spread, commission, swap, slippage and price movement while positions are being closed.
Default basket configuration
- Maximum positions: 20
- Initial grid spacing: 300 points
- Basket target: 25 points
- Position sizing: 0.01 lot per 1,000 account balance
- Balance drawdown protection: Enabled
- Maximum balance drawdown: 15%
- Cooldown after protection: 60 minutes
- Spread protection: Enabled
- Fast Tester: Enabled
The default maximum of 20 positions is a technical capacity limit. It is not a recommended number of positions to keep open.
Point values are symbol-specific and should not be confused with pips.
Position sizing
The EA supports:
- Fixed lot size
- Balance-based lot scaling
The default balance-based configuration calculates approximately:
- 0.01 lot per 1,000 account balance
The final volume remains subject to the broker’s minimum volume, maximum volume, volume step and available-margin requirements.
Balance-based scaling can increase the trading volume as account balance grows. Users should consider the possible combined exposure of all 20 basket positions, not only the initial position.
Adverse-trend recovery control
The EA includes an internal control that can pause additional recovery entries when a persistent adverse trend is detected.
This function limits new grid additions under its programmed conditions. It does not necessarily close positions already open, and it cannot guarantee that the basket will recover or avoid further drawdown.
Pausing recovery entries may also leave the basket with fewer positions available to change its weighted average entry.
Balance drawdown protection
When enabled, the EA monitors the difference between account balance and equity according to its programmed calculation.
If the configured threshold is reached, the EA can:
- Attempt to close its managed positions
- Remove its applicable pending orders
- Pause new trading
- Begin the configured cooldown
- Resume trading automatically after the cooldown conditions are satisfied
The default threshold is 15%, with a 60-minute cooldown.
The threshold is an activation level rather than a guaranteed maximum loss. Price gaps, rapid movement, spread expansion, commission, swap, slippage, insufficient liquidity, execution delays and broker stop-out rules may cause the realised loss to exceed the configured percentage.
Automatic resumption means the EA may begin looking for new trades after the cooldown. Users who do not want automatic re-entry should disable the EA or change the relevant setting.
Spread and margin protection
Before submitting an eligible trade request, the EA can check:
- Current spread
- Maximum permitted spread
- Available margin
- Broker volume limits
- Symbol trading permission
- Maximum basket positions
- Active protection conditions
These checks can prevent some order requests from being submitted. They cannot guarantee acceptance or execution at the requested price.
Trading sessions and weekdays
Entry activity can be restricted according to:
- Selected weekdays
- Configured trading sessions
- Custom trading hours
- Broker symbol availability
Time filters generally control new entries. They do not necessarily close an existing basket when a session or trading day ends.
Session settings should be checked against the broker’s server time.
Optional news filter
The EA can use the MetaTrader 5 Economic Calendar to restrict new trading around configured events.
The news filter depends on the availability and correct operation of the MT5 calendar. It cannot guarantee protection from unexpected news, volatility, spread expansion or price gaps.
Dashboard
The optional on-chart panel can display information such as:
- EA operating status
- Current Crystal direction
- Selected entry profile
- Signal and higher timeframes
- Number of basket positions
- Total basket volume
- Weighted average entry
- Current basket target
- Floating profit or loss
- Spread status
- Drawdown status
- Active recovery protection
- Account balance and equity
The dashboard is informational and can be enabled or disabled independently from Fast Tester mode.
Fast Tester mode
Fast Tester mode is enabled by default and is intended to reduce unnecessary processing during Strategy Tester operation.
The Fast Tester and dashboard inputs operate independently. Disabling the dashboard does not require Fast Tester to be disabled.
Test results still depend on data quality, modelling method, spread, commission, swap, deposit, leverage and broker symbol specifications.

Important risk information
Kiwi Crystal Edge MT5 is a grid-based basket system. When price continues moving against an active basket, the EA may add positions and increase total exposure, margin usage and floating drawdown.
The 20-position limit does not define a maximum financial loss. A basket may remain open for an extended period, accumulate swap charges or reach broker stop-out before recovering.
Heikin Ashi confirmation, higher-timeframe filtering, adverse-trend protection and drawdown control cannot eliminate trading risk.
Historical tests and optimisations do not guarantee future results. This EA is intended for users who understand grid trading, basket exposure, leverage and drawdown risk.
