Donchian Hunter

The Donchian Channels indicator is a technical analysis tool developed by Richard Donchian that allows traders to visualize an asset’s volatility and price ranges. It consists of three lines: the upper line, marking the highest price reached over a specific period; the lower line, indicating the lowest price for the same interval; and the middle line, representing the midpoint between the two. This indicator is widely used to identify trend breakouts and consolidation zones: when the price rises above the upper band, it is interpreted as a potential buy signal, whereas a drop below the lower band may suggest a selling opportunity. It is particularly valuable in trend-following and risk management strategies, as it helps define entry, exit, and stop-loss levels based on market dynamics.

Configuration is straightforward:

• IndicatorPeriod: 20 candles is the standard setting, though highly volatile assets may benefit from lowering this to 17.

Usage instructions:  

• For buy operations: wait for the price to touch the lower channel to identify a potential buy opportunity. Confirm the signal when the green arrow appears on the chart, then place a Buy Stop order slightly above the middle channel.
• For sell operations (mirror logic): wait for the price to touch the upper channel to identify a potential sell opportunity. Confirm the signal when the red arrow appears, then place a Sell Stop order slightly below the middle channel.
