Phoenix Edge

Phoenix Edge is a systematic trend-following Expert Advisor for Bitcoin (BTCUSD) and Gold (XAUUSD). Each symbol runs its own optimized parameter profile that the EA applies automatically based on chart detection.

No martingale, no grid, no scaling into losses. One signal, one entry, one exit — managed with adaptive stops and R-multiple targets.

Validation methodology

This product is transparent about how each symbol's profile was validated. 

XAUUSD and BTCUSD — walk-forward validated ✓

Out-of-sample performance matches or exceeds in-sample on every metric — profit factor, drawdown, Sharpe, recovery factor, worst consecutive losses. This is the fingerprint of a genuine edge, not optimizer cherry-picking.

Strategy

A proprietary multi-filter momentum approach. The EA waits for a confluence of trend, volatility, and microstructure conditions before entering, and uses ATR-based stops with adaptive R-multiple targets. Specific filter logic and validated parameter values are documented in the User Manual delivered with the product.

Per-symbol profiles

The EA detects the chart symbol and applies the matching profile automatically:

• BTC profile — H1, conservative entry filters, blocks the US session, ATR-based stops, R-trailing.
• XAU profile — M30, both-directions, ATR-based stops, R-trailing, counter-trend TP adjustment when trading against the H4 macro trend.

Different timeframes and different filter sets — because BTC and XAU have structurally different microstructure and what works for one doesn't transfer to the other. The walk-forward results above belong specifically to the XAU profile as shipped.

If you attach to a symbol that isn't BTC or XAU, the EA enters passive mode — no new entries, existing positions still managed, clear on-chart warning. No INIT_FAILED, no surprise behavior.

Prop-firm support

• Daily loss circuit breaker (configurable %, default 4%) — closes open position and stops new entries when breached. Auto-resets next trading day.
• Profit target (configurable %, default 10%) — closes position and stops trading when reached. State persists across EA restarts so multi-day challenges work correctly.
• Initial balance override — custom starting balance for accounting.
• Reset state input — single toggle to wipe target state for a new challenge phase.

Honest prop-firm disclosure: max DD on the XAU walk-forward was 11.0% in-sample. This is above FTMO's 10% total drawdown limit and below The 5%ers' 12% limit.

• Suitable for: The 5%ers, MyForexFunds Aggressive, FundedNext, and most programs with 10%+ DD tolerance.
• FTMO Challenge specifically: reduce risk per trade to 0.5–0.7% to scale DD into compliance. Returns scale proportionally.

Smart position sizing

• Risk-based — lot size auto-calculates from SL distance to maintain target risk per trade.
• Native MT5 P&L calculator — uses OrderCalcProfit so per-lot risk is exact across all brokers regardless of tick value/size conventions.
• Margin-aware cap — caps lot to a configurable % of free margin (default 90%) so orders never get rejected with "No money" on lower-leverage brokers.

Canvas HUD (live charts)

Real-time on-chart panel themed to the Phoenix branding:

• Segmented win-rate donut, profit factor, max drawdown
• Today's P&L and current equity
• Daily loss budget — chunked progress bar with traffic-light gradient
• Profit target progress
• Open position card with R-multiple status
• Filter status pills

Auto-disabled in Strategy Tester so optimization runs at full native speed.

Safety features

• Symbol mismatch → passive mode: never deinits on the wrong symbol.
• News filter: pauses entries N minutes before/after high-impact USD events (requires MT5 economic calendar).
• Dynamic slippage: scales with ATR with configurable bounds.
• Optional trading hours/days whitelist.
• Triple-fallback lot sizing: handles broker margin / stops-level / min-lot constraints automatically.

Optimization-ready

Strategy Tester runs lean — HUD, statistics tracking, persistence, and AutoTune are all skipped automatically in tester/optimization mode. Your inputs flow through to the engine directly, so a single test with the same parameters as an optimization pass reproduces the result exactly — no silent override.

This makes it straightforward to run your own walk-forward validation.

Recommended setup

• Account: $1,000+ for either symbol.
• Broker: regulated, USD account, stable spreads. ECN/STP preferred for BTC.
• Hosting: VPS for 24/7 BTC (trades all days including weekends). Gold trades ~23h × 5 days.
• Risk per trade: 1% (validated default). Lower for stricter prop-firm DD compliance.
• Activations: 5 (standard MQL5 Market).
