Liquidity Hunter is a liquidity and market structure indicator for MT4 and MT5 that only keeps the levels nobody has taken yet. A swing high stops being drawn on the bar that trades through it. Yesterday's high disappears the moment price clears it. What's left on the chart is the stops that are still sitting there.
That matters more than it sounds. On GBPUSD H1 from January 2020 to September 2026, 97.8% of daily highs and lows were taken out, and half of them within about 14 hours of the new day opening. A previous-day-high line that keeps pointing at a level price already ran through is pointing at nothing.
What it does differently
| What the idea says | What a typical liquidity tool does | What Liquidity Hunter does |
|---|---|---|
| A swing high is resting liquidity until price trades through it | Draws the line forever, or deletes it after a fixed number of bars | Extends the zone bar by bar and stops it on the exact bar whose range includes the level. Untouched zones run to the current bar |
| Yesterday's high is only liquidity until it's taken | Always draws the last day's high and low | Keeps every daily, weekly and monthly high and low that hasn't been taken, and removes each one the bar price trades beyond it |
| A swing is only a swing once later bars confirm it | Marks it early and quietly moves it | Waits for 10 bars on the right. The dot lands on the pivot bar but appears 10 bars later, and never moves after that |
| A break of structure is a close beyond the swing | Counts wicks, or flips on the forming bar | Needs a closed bar to close beyond the swing. CHoCH when the break goes against the previous one, BOS when it doesn't |
| An order block is the last normal candle before the move | Picks the biggest candle, or leaves it to you | Takes the lowest (or highest) candle between the swing and the break whose range is under 2 × ATR(200), so news spikes can't become blocks |
What it draws
Liquidity swings. Pivot highs and lows (15 bars left, 10 right) with a dot, a dotted line and a zone 0.07% of price wide. It grows to the right until a bar's range covers the level, then stops there as a record of the sweep.
Daily, weekly and monthly levels. Every completed day's, week's and month's high and low, drawn as short lines past the last bar: blue for days, yellow for weeks, pink for months. Only the untaken ones are shown.
Market structure. A 50-bar swing engine with HH, LH, HL and LL labels, dashed Break of Structure and Change of Character lines, and the strong or weak high and low that the next break will be measured against.
Order blocks. The five most recent, extended to the right until a close goes through them.
Fair value gaps, with an automatic filter: the candle that opens the gap needs a body more than twice the average candle body.
Previous day high and low, and a premium (supply) and discount (demand) band at the outer 5% of the current swing range.
What it doesn't draw: internal (short-term) structure, equal highs and lows, session boxes, entries, stop losses, targets, or anything from another timeframe. And no win rate table. I'd treat any indicator listing that has one with some care.
The numbers behind it
Measured on Exness data, January 2020 to September 2026, default settings:
| GBPUSD H1 | XAUUSD H1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Liquidity swing zones | 2,300 | 2,140 |
| Median bars from confirmation to the touch | 30 | 27 |
| Zones still untouched after 200 bars | 18.9% | 17.7% |
| Daily highs/lows taken out | 97.8% | 95.0% |
| Median time until a daily level is taken | 0.6 days | 0.6 days |
| Weekly levels taken / median time | 94.5% / 4.6 days | 88.0% / 3.6 days |
| Monthly levels taken / median time | 87.3% / 13.9 days | 75.3% / 12.5 days |
A daily level that survives its first day is the exception, and those exceptions are what's left on your chart.
Reading the chart
| On the chart | Read it as |
|---|---|
| A zone still running to the current bar | Stops nobody has taken yet |
| A daily or weekly line just above a swing zone | Two layers of liquidity at one price. That's where a sweep tends to aim |
| CHoCH after a sweep of the opposite side | The structure turned after the liquidity went |
| Order block inside the discount band | Demand that's also cheap relative to the swing |
Settings
| Setting | Default | What it changes | When to move it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bars Right / Bars Left | 10 / 15 | How a swing is confirmed. Right is also the delay before the dot appears | Lower Right (5) for faster, noisier swings on H4 and above. It changes the swings, not just the look |
| Extend Until Fill | On | Zones run until touched | Off gives short fixed stubs, useful when you only want the dots |
| Hide Filled | Off | Deletes touched zones instead of keeping them | On for a clean live chart. You lose the record of past sweeps |
| Volume > | 0 | Skips swings whose pivot candle had less tick volume | Leave at 0 unless you know your broker's tick counts |
| Swing length | 50 | The structure engine: swings, BOS, CHoCH, order blocks, premium/discount | 20 for a faster read: gold H1 goes from one event every 156 bars to one every 63. This is a signal setting |
| Order Block filter | Atr | Which candles may become a block: range under 2 × ATR(200), or under 2 × the average range of the whole history | Leave it on Atr unless you want blocks to ignore recent volatility |
| Show Liquidity (D/W/M) | On | Higher timeframe levels | Off on D1 and above, where they add little |
| Bars back to draw | 3000 | Display only | Raise it to see older sweeps; the logic always runs on full history |
Colours, box width and type and every Show switch change only what you see. One exception: Show Highs and Show Lows also empty the swing buffers an EA reads.
If you only touch three things: Swing length, Bars Right, and Hide Filled.
Liquidity Hunter vs a smart money concepts indicator
A typical SMC indicator leads with structure and blocks and treats liquidity as an afterthought. This one is the other way round: liquidity first, and structure to tell you whether a sweep turned anything.
Alerts
Popup, mobile push, email, and on MT5 a Telegram message with a chart screenshot. Three switches: BOS and CHoCH (on by default once you pick a notification type), a new liquidity swing, and a daily, weekly or monthly level being taken. Everything is checked on bar close, and each alert fires once per bar.
What this version can't do
The structure engine is slow on purpose. With a 50-bar swing it printed 251 BOS and CHoCH events on six and a half years of gold H1, one every 156 bars, and the median gap from the swing to its break was 90 bars. It tells you about the trend you're in, not the next hour.
Fair value gaps aren't removed symmetrically. A bullish gap goes when price trades through its bottom, a bearish one as soon as a high reaches its lower edge. On gold H1 a bearish gap lived a median 2 bars against 10 for a bullish one. I kept that rule because it's how the logic was specified, but you should know it before you read anything into a missing bearish gap.
After a long trend, untaken levels pile up on one side: 181 daily lows below gold at the end of the test, 25 above. Most sit far off screen.
MT4 runs the same engine with the same defaults and draws the same objects. Alerts there are popup, push and email; MT5 adds Telegram with a chart screenshot.
The part that took longest wasn't the logic. MetaTrader mixes overlapping filled rectangles, so two pink zones on top of each other came out white. Every box is now cut into pieces that don't overlap before it's drawn, each in the colour the stack should have.
Questions you'll have
Does Liquidity Hunter repaint? No. Everything is computed on closed bars. A swing is confirmed 10 bars after the pivot and never moves, and a BOS or CHoCH needs a closed bar beyond the swing. The forming bar is never used.
Why do the swing dots appear late? Because a pivot needs 10 bars on its right to be a pivot. The dot is drawn on the pivot candle, but it shows up 10 bars later. Lower Bars Right if that's too slow for you.
What are the best settings for Liquidity Hunter? The defaults on H1 and M15. If structure feels too slow, Swing length 20 gives about two and a half times as many BOS and CHoCH events. Bars Right 5 gives earlier, noisier swings.
Can I get alerts? Yes, on bar close: BOS and CHoCH, a new liquidity swing, or a daily, weekly or monthly level being taken. Each fires once per bar.
MT4 or MT5? Same logic and defaults bar for bar, sold as two separate products here. MT5 adds Telegram alerts with a screenshot.
Can my EA read it? Yes. Buffers 0 and 1 hold the swing high and low, 2 the trend, 3 the structure event (+1 BOS up, +2 CHoCH up, negative for down), 4 and 5 the last swing levels, 6 and 7 the trailing range.
