GS News — Gold & Silver News is an Expert Advisor for XAUUSD and XAGUSD designed to trade confirmed breakouts of a dynamic price channel during periods of increased news volatility.
The Expert Advisor does not attempt to predict the outcome of a news release or the future market direction. It monitors actual price behavior and opens a position only after the price confirms a breakout of the calculated channel boundary.
One of the key features of GS News is its dynamic trade target. The width of the current channel represents the size of the established price range and can be used to calculate Take Profit. A narrow channel produces a closer target, while a wider channel increases the potential target distance.
Trading Instruments and Timeframes
- XAUUSD — gold;
- XAGUSD — silver;
- recommended timeframes: M5, M10 and M15.
On lower timeframes, the Expert Advisor reacts faster to market changes, but market noise and false price movements may increase. On M15, levels are formed more slowly, but they usually reflect a more stable market structure.
Trading Concept
Before important macroeconomic releases, gold and silver often form a local price range. After the release, volatility may increase sharply and the price may leave this range with a directional movement.
GS News builds a dynamic step channel based on confirmed local highs and lows. After an actual breakout of the selected boundary, the Expert Advisor can open a position in the direction of the movement.
The Expert Advisor does not place simultaneous opposite pending orders. The trade direction is determined only after the breakout is confirmed by the actual market price.
Channel Width as a Dynamic Target
The channel reflects the current market structure and volatility. The distance between its boundaries can be used as the potential size of the subsequent price movement.
- A narrow channel places Take Profit closer to the entry price.
- A wide channel increases the potential target distance.
- When a new confirmed level is formed, Take Profit can be moved to the updated channel boundary.
Therefore, the trade target does not have to remain identical under all market conditions and can adapt to the current price range.
Why News Clusters Are Important
GS News is primarily designed for periods when several important USD events are released within a relatively short period of time.
These events may include:
- interest rate decisions;
- central bank press conferences;
- inflation reports;
- employment data;
- GDP reports;
- business activity indices;
- speeches by central bank representatives;
- other important macroeconomic releases.
The higher the concentration of important events, the greater the probability of increased volatility. However, the presence of a news release does not guarantee a directional price movement.
Trading Time Control
The user independently selects the dates and periods during which the Expert Advisor is allowed to open new positions.
The following controls are available:
- two independent trading windows;
- separate start and end times for each window;
- ON and OFF buttons on the chart for enabling or disabling new entries;
- optional position closing after the permitted trading period ends;
- optional control through Telegram.
For trading around a selected news period, it is recommended to set the trading window to start 15 minutes before the news release and end 30 minutes after the release.
Main Features
Dynamic Price Channel
The channel is built using confirmed local price extremes. The left and right channel shoulders are used to confirm each local high or low.
The chart can display:
- upper internal and external levels;
- lower internal and external levels;
- historical step changes of the channel boundaries;
- zones between the channel levels.
Channel Offset Settings
Channel level offsets can be calculated in two ways:
- as a fixed percentage;
- automatically using ATR.
In automatic mode, the user can set the ATR period, the first and second line multipliers, and the minimum and maximum offset limits.
Trading Direction
The following direction filters are available:
- Long + Short;
- Long only;
- Short only.
Take Profit
Two Take Profit modes are available:
- a fixed percentage from the entry price;
- the opposite boundary of the dynamic channel.
When the channel boundary mode is used, Take Profit can be recalculated after a new confirmed channel level appears.
Stop Loss
Two Stop Loss modes are available:
- a fixed percentage from the entry price;
- beyond the high or low of the entry candle.
When the Stop Loss beyond the entry candle mode is selected, a fixed percentage protection level is applied immediately after the position is opened. After the entry candle closes, the Expert Advisor calculates a new Stop Loss beyond the candle extreme and uses the level that is closer to the entry price.
Virtual Break Even
After the price covers a specified part of the distance to Take Profit, the Expert Advisor can activate a virtual break-even mechanism. If the price returns to the entry level, the position is closed programmatically.
The virtual level is not placed on the broker's server. MetaTrader 5 must remain running and the Expert Advisor must remain active on the chart.
Daily Limits
- daily profit limit;
- daily loss limit;
- automatic blocking of new entries after the specified limit is reached;
- automatic reset at the beginning of the next server trading day.
Volume Management
- fixed trading volume;
- volume calculation based on the selected margin amount;
- optional volume increase after a losing trade;
- maximum number of consecutive volume increases;
- reset of the increased volume after a profitable trade.
Increasing the trading volume after a loss increases trading risk and is disabled by default.
Telegram
Telegram control is an optional feature and is disabled by default.
The following functions are available through Telegram:
- receiving the Expert Advisor status;
- enabling and disabling new entries;
- viewing open positions;
- receiving the daily realized PnL;
- managing trading windows;
- closing positions opened by the Expert Advisor.
Telegram functions are not used in the Strategy Tester.

Input Parameters
01. Channel Settings
- Left channel shoulder — the number of candles to the left of a local extreme used to confirm a high or low.
- Right channel shoulder — the number of candles to the right of the extreme. A higher value provides stronger level confirmation but delays the appearance of the level.
- Show channel on chart — enables historical visualization of the step channel. This parameter does not change the trading calculations.
02. Line Offsets
- Line offset mode — selects how the distance between the channel levels is calculated: a fixed percentage or an automatic percentage based on ATR.
- Fixed first-line offset, % — moves the internal channel level relative to the confirmed extreme. A negative value can also be used.
- Fixed second-line offset from the first line, % — sets the distance between the internal and external channel boundaries.
- ATR period for Auto ATR % — the ATR period used for automatic offset calculation.
- Auto ATR multiplier for the first line — determines the offset of the internal channel level.
- Auto ATR multiplier for the second line from the first line — determines the distance from the first line to the second line.
- Minimum automatic offset, % — the minimum permitted value of the ATR-based offset.
- Maximum automatic offset, % — the maximum permitted value of the ATR-based offset.
03. Trading
- Trading enabled on startup — allows new entries immediately after the Expert Advisor is attached or restarted.
- Order activation — Standard — BUY signals are monitored using Ask, while SELL signals are monitored using Bid.
- Order activation — Bid only — signals in both directions are monitored using Bid.
- Magic Number — the unique identifier of the Expert Advisor's trades. Different values are recommended for different charts and symbols.
- Direction filter — allows trading in both directions, Long only or Short only.
- Allowed deviation, points — the maximum permitted price deviation during trade execution.
Take Profit
- TP mode — Fixed percentage — Take Profit is placed at the specified percentage distance from the entry price.
- TP mode — At channel border — Take Profit is placed at the opposite boundary of the dynamic channel.
- TP, % — the Take Profit distance used in Fixed percentage mode.
- Move TP to a new line — moves the channel-based Take Profit when a new confirmed level appears.
Stop Loss
- SL mode — Fixed percentage — Stop Loss is placed at the specified percentage distance from the entry price.
- SL mode — Beyond entry candle — immediately after the position is opened, it is protected by a fixed Stop Loss calculated using the SL, % parameter. After the entry candle closes, the Expert Advisor calculates a new level beyond the candle extreme.
- SL, % — the main Stop Loss distance in Fixed percentage mode and the initial and limiting Stop Loss in Beyond entry candle mode.
- SL offset beyond entry candle, points — the additional distance beyond the high or low of the entry candle.
After the entry candle closes:
- for a BUY position, Stop Loss is calculated below the candle low;
- for a SELL position, Stop Loss is calculated above the candle high;
- the Expert Advisor selects the level that is closer to the entry price from the fixed Stop Loss and the entry-candle Stop Loss.
04. Trading Time Filter
- Trading Time Filter — enables time-based restrictions for new entries.
- Window 1 start and end — the first permitted trading period.
- Window 2 start and end — the second permitted trading period.
- Close positions after trading time ends — closes an open position after the permitted trading window ends.
Time values must be entered in HH:MM format according to the broker's server time.
05. Daily Limits
- Daily profit limit — after the specified profit in the account currency is reached, new entries are blocked until the next trading day.
- Daily loss limit — after the specified loss in the account currency is reached, new entries are blocked until the next trading day.
- Value 0 — disables the corresponding limit.
The calculation includes the result of closed Expert Advisor trades during the current server trading day.
06. Telegram
- Telegram control enabled — enables Telegram control.
- Telegram Bot Token — the token of the created Telegram bot.
- Telegram Chat ID — the identifier of the user or chat authorized to control the Expert Advisor.
To use Telegram functions, add the Telegram API address to the list of permitted WebRequest URLs in the MetaTrader 5 settings.
07. Trade Volume
- Volume mode — selects a fixed lot or volume calculation based on the specified margin.
- Fixed lot — the constant volume of every new position.
- Margin per trade, % of deposit — the share of the account balance used as the calculated margin for one trade.
- Increase lot after a losing trade — enables an increase in the next trading volume after a losing trade.
- Multiplier after a loss — the multiplier applied to the next trading volume.
- Maximum consecutive increases — the maximum number of consecutive volume increases.
- Reset after a profitable trade — resets the increased trading volume after a profitable trade.
- Reset counter from the current time — manually resets the stored sequence of volume increases.
08. Virtual Break Even
- Break-even enabled — enables virtual protection of the position at the break-even level.
- Break-even trigger, % of distance to TP — the percentage of the distance from the entry price to Take Profit that must be covered before the mechanism is activated.
After activation, the Expert Advisor monitors a return to the entry level and closes the position programmatically. The virtual level is not placed on the broker's server.

General Recommendations
- Use a trading window starting 15 minutes before the selected news release and ending 30 minutes after the release.
- When trading XAUUSD and XAGUSD simultaneously, attach the Expert Advisor to separate charts.
- Use different Magic Numbers for different Expert Advisor instances.
- Calculate the trading volume separately for gold and silver.
- For initial testing, use the minimum trading volume permitted by your broker.
- XAGUSD uses a wider channel because silver usually produces sharper price movements.
- M5 may produce more signals, but the effects of market noise, spread and slippage may also increase.
- Set daily profit and loss limits according to the account size and acceptable risk.
News Trading Considerations
- Spreads may widen significantly during news releases.
- Market orders may be executed with slippage.
- The actual execution price may differ from the calculated price.
- Stop Loss and Take Profit do not guarantee execution at the exact specified price.
- Quotes, spreads, liquidity and symbol specifications differ between brokers.
- Strategy Tester results may differ from live trading results.
- A VPS and a stable connection to the broker's server may reduce technical delays but cannot eliminate market risks.
