This indicator is a Fair Value Gap (FVG) detector and visualizer for MetaTrader 5, specifically named "FVGs + Alerts"
It belongs to the popular Smart Money Concepts (SMC / ICT) family of tools and highlights price imbalances (gaps) that frequently appear after strong, impulsive moves.
What is a Fair Value Gap (FVG)?
A classic 3-candle FVG occurs when:
- Bullish FVG (Up FVG): High of candle [n-2] < Low of candle [n] → creates a gap below price (price is expected to return downward to fill it)
- Bearish FVG (Down FVG): Low of candle [n-2] > High of candle [n] → creates a gap above price (price is expected to return upward to fill it)
Main Features of This Specific Indicator
- Visualizes FVGs as colored rectangles (boxes) on the chart
- Up FVGs →
- Down FVGs →
- Optional midline (50% level / CE = Central Equilibrium) drawn as dotted line
- Many traders use this level as a more conservative mitigation threshold
- Lookback period limited to last N days (default = 7 days) → keeps chart clean
- Two mitigation modes:
- Full fill — zone considered filled when price crosses the opposite edge
- CE threshold — zone considered filled when price reaches/crosses the 50% midline (more sensitive / earlier signal)
- Body-only vs Wick mode:
- Option to detect mitigation using candle bodies only (ignores wicks) → stricter / cleaner signals
- Auto-removal of filled/mitigated zones (optional)
- Keeps only the most recent ~12 active FVGs in each direction (to avoid clutter)
- Live extension — boxes stretch rightward to the current bar until mitigated
Alerts (all disabled by default)
- Threshold cross (when a zone is mitigated → changes net FVG count)
- IOFED (price has Entered but not yet Filled the gap)
- New confirmed FVG created
- FVG that was un-confirmed (very early warning on bar[2])
Alerts can send MT5 popup + mobile push notification.
Typical Trading Usage (SMC/ICT context)
- Bullish bias → look for price to pull back into a recent bullish FVG (blue box) and react from there
- Bearish bias → look for price to rally into a recent bearish FVG (orange box)
- Many traders combine FVGs with:
- Order Blocks
- Breaker blocks
- Liquidity sweeps
- MSS / Change of Character
