Sasha is designed for long trades on currency pairs such as EURJPY and GBPJPY on H4 timeframe.
Before Sasha became an algorithm, it was a pattern I traded by hand during my master's studies in Europe.
The rules were less developed then. The fascination was already there: three candles, a local extreme, and the possibility that price was beginning to turn.
Sasha grew from that interest through repeated attempts, refinements and a gradual change in how I approached trading. Today, it is a MetaTrader 5 Expert Advisor that brings a defined structure to those reversal setups: completed-candle confirmation, a stop loss on each entry, three exit methods and a configurable response to consecutive losses.
Where the idea began
During my master's studies in Europe, I manually traded an earlier, less developed version of this approach. Morning-star and evening-star formations particularly interested me because they gave me a concrete way to study a possible change in direction.
The pattern gave me something specific to examine: where the middle candle formed, how the next candle closed, and where the trade idea would become invalid. That experience helped me grow as a trader by drawing my attention toward the quality of the setup and the decisions surrounding it.
A recognizable formation was only the beginning. I still had to decide whether its location mattered, how much to risk, when to exit and how to respond when several trades went against me. Those questions became central to Sasha's development.
From a manual idea to explicit rules
Through repeated attempts to refine the strategy, my focus became more precise. I wanted to explain what qualified as a setup and make the response to it consistent.
Turning the approach into software required decisions that manual trading can leave open to interpretation. How far back should a swing be compared? What counts as confirmation? Where does the stop belong? What happens after a losing streak?
Sasha is my current implementation of those decisions. It retains the candle-pattern idea that first interested me, with more explicit entry conditions and trade management around it.
The part of this process I value most is the discipline it encouraged: waiting for a defined setup, accepting that it can fail, and assessing a sequence of trades rather than expecting each individual trade to prove the strategy.
Who Sasha may suit
I designed Sasha for a trader who likes to understand the logic behind a position and is comfortable waiting for conditions to align.
It may suit you if you prefer:
- A focused price-action method with identifiable entry conditions.
- A stop loss defined at entry and a clear choice of exit method.
- A measured approach to losing streaks instead of increasing position size to recover losses.
- Evaluating a strategy over a meaningful sample, including quiet periods and drawdowns.
Sasha does not aim to provide constant activity. It waits for qualifying patterns, and there may be periods with no new entries.
The Expert Advisor applies the programmed rules. Choosing suitable settings, understanding exposure and evaluating results remain the trader's responsibility.
Sasha does not use grid trading, averaging down or a martingale loss-recovery method.
How Sasha identifies a trade
Sasha uses modified morning-star and evening-star formations, evaluated on completed candles.
The middle candle must form a local swing extreme relative to the surrounding candles and an adjustable preceding-candle lookback. The third candle confirms direction by closing beyond the middle candle's body.
Entry is attempted on the next signal candle once the required data is available.
Each entry is submitted with a stop loss beyond the middle candle's high or low, plus an adjustable buffer.
An optional exponential moving average filter allows buy signals above the average and sell signals below it.
You can select long-only, short-only or both directions.
Sasha trades the attached chart symbol. The signal timeframe can be selected in the inputs and defaults to the 4-hour timeframe.
Three exit methods
Fixed target
Set the take-profit distance as a multiple of the initial entry-to-stop distance.
Breakeven at the initial risk distance
After price moves favorably by the initial risk distance, the stop is moved to the entry price.
There is no fixed target and no further trailing in this mode.
Trading costs can still produce a net loss when a position is closed at the entry price.
Average True Range trailing
After price moves favorably by twice the initial risk distance, a trailing stop is activated.
The trailing distance is set to 1.5 times the latest completed 4-hour Average True Range. This distance is fixed when trailing is activated.
The stop follows subsequent favorable price movement without being loosened during a reversal.
The initial risk distance refers to the distance between the entry price and the original stop loss.
The Average True Range period is adjustable. The 4-hour Average True Range timeframe, the activation level of twice the initial risk distance and the 1.5 multiplier are fixed in this version.
Average True Range activation does not necessarily place the stop beyond the entry price or lock in a profit.
Broker restrictions can delay stop adjustments.
Position sizing and consecutive losses
You can choose between fixed position size, percentage risk based on current account balance, or percentage risk based on current account equity.
After a configurable number of consecutive net losing trades, Sasha switches to a specified fixed position size.
Normal position sizing resumes after the required number of consecutive net winning trades.
The default settings are three consecutive losses, 0.01 lots and two consecutive winning trades.
Trade outcomes include recorded profit, swap, commissions and fees. A profitable exit after these costs counts as a winning trade.
A flat result breaks the consecutive sequence without independently ending the reduced-position-size mode.
The broker's minimum trading volume applies.
The reduced position size should be considered in relation to normal exposure. A fixed position size does not guarantee lower cash risk on every trade.
This feature is not an account drawdown limit and does not guarantee recovery of previous losses.
Example historical backtest
The following figures are from a historical MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester backtest.
They are not live trading results and should not be interpreted as a forecast of future performance.
- Starting deposit: 1,000 US dollars.
- Net profit: 2,605.75 US dollars.
- Profit factor: 1.52.
- Winning trades: 73 of 102, or 71.57%.
- Maximum relative equity drawdown: 39.54%.
- Trade direction: 102 long trades and no short trades.
The test recorded substantial growth together with substantial drawdown.
These results depend on the tested symbol, testing period, trading costs and selected settings. They do not establish future performance and do not establish short-side performance.
The supplied screenshots do not identify the symbol, exact dates, modelling mode or input settings needed to reproduce the test.
A history-quality reading of 100% alone does not confirm that real-tick modelling was used.
Setup and evaluation
Use one instance per symbol and magic-number combination, with distinct magic numbers for independently managed instances.
Existing positions or orders under the same magic number block new entries.
Avoid simultaneous instances sharing a magic number, and avoid mixing strategies on the same symbol in a netting account.
Keep MetaTrader 5 connected with algorithmic trading enabled for entry checks and ongoing stop management.
Optional chart styling provides a charcoal background and hollow white candles.
Before purchase, evaluate the Market demo in the Strategy Tester using your intended symbol, realistic trading costs and the "Every tick based on real ticks" testing mode.
The default 4-hour timeframe and the example's 1,000 US dollar deposit are not universal recommendations.
Suitability depends on the instrument, broker conditions and selected settings.
Sasha began as part of my own learning process. I want the person using it to understand the setup, the rules and the possibility of loss.
If you value that kind of clarity and have the patience to evaluate a strategy through different periods, Sasha may fit your approach.
Start with the demo. Study the losing periods as carefully as the profitable ones. Then decide whether Sasha belongs in your trading.
Trading involves risk. Gaps and slippage can cause losses beyond the intended stop. Historical performance does not guarantee future results.
