Vertex Gold MT5

VERTEX MT5 is an Expert Advisor developed for automated market structure trading on MetaTrader 5.

  • The EA identifies significant swing highs and swing lows, waits for price to break through one of them, and then opens a position when price returns to retest that broken level from the other side. It does not chase the breakout itself. It waits for the retest. The system combines swing structure detection, a break confirmation, a retest filter and a trend filter, together with a full set of execution controls. It is designed to wait for a qualified formation instead of opening trades continuously.

How the strategy works

  • The highest high and the lowest low of the recent lookback window are examined on every closed bar.
  • A high is only accepted as a swing once it sits far enough in the past and also dominates an equally long window running further back. The same rule applies to lows.
  • A structure level is registered when price trades through a confirmed swing.
  • A buy is opened when price pulls back into a broken swing high after having held above it for several bars. A sell is the mirror image.
  • A moving average filter allows trades only in the direction of the prevailing trend.
  • Once a level has produced a trade it is discarded, so the same structure is never traded twice.

Recommended Trading Conditions

VERTEX MT5 is sensitive to spread, slippage and execution speed. Broker conditions can therefore have a significant impact on results.

A Raw Spread or Raw ECN account is strongly recommended.

The default Stop Loss and Take Profit are expressed in pips and are adapted automatically to the number of decimals used by your broker. On a 3-digit or 5-digit quote the EA uses the standard pip. On instruments quoted with a different number of decimals it falls back to the point size of that symbol, so the same input value can represent a different distance. Check the resulting Stop Loss distance on your own symbol before increasing volume.

Run a MetaTrader 5 backtest using the Every tick based on real ticks model before increasing the trading volume. Results can differ between brokers because of spread, commission, symbol specifications, execution speed, liquidity and slippage.

Recommended Setup

  • Platform: MetaTrader 5
  • Symbol: XAUUSD
  • Timeframe: M15
  • Account type: Raw Spread or Raw ECN
  • Account mode: hedging or netting, both supported
  • Recommended starting volume: 0.01 lot
  • Minimum recommended deposit with martingale enabled: 2500 USD
  • Minimum recommended deposit with martingale disabled: 500 USD

The default Stop Loss and Take Profit values are sized for gold. On other instruments they must be adjusted before use.

For stable operation, MetaTrader 5 and Algo Trading must remain active. A VPS located close to the broker's trading server is recommended.

Position Sizing

Two sizing modes are available.

With balance scaling enabled, the base lot grows one step for every full block of balance. With the default settings, every 2500 USD of balance adds 0.01 lot to the base position size.

With balance scaling disabled, the base lot is used exactly as entered.

Risk Management

VERTEX MT5 uses martingale recovery. After a losing trade the next position size is multiplied by the martingale factor. The sequence stops when a trade closes in profit or when the maximum number of steps is reached, at which point the size returns to the base lot.

Two recovery modes are available. In shared mode buy and sell trades belong to one single recovery sequence and only one position is held at a time. In separate mode each direction keeps its own sequence, which requires a hedging account.

With the default settings on XAUUSD, a Stop Loss of 2500 pips costs approximately 25 USD per 0.01 lot. A recovery sequence at the default multiplier of 2.0 therefore develops as follows:

  • Loss 1: 0.01 lot, about 25 USD, cumulative 25 USD
  • Loss 2: 0.02 lot, about 50 USD, cumulative 75 USD
  • Loss 3: 0.04 lot, about 100 USD, cumulative 175 USD
  • Loss 4: 0.08 lot, about 200 USD, cumulative 375 USD
  • Loss 5: 0.16 lot, about 400 USD, cumulative 775 USD
  • Loss 6: 0.32 lot, about 800 USD, cumulative 1575 USD
  • Loss 7: 0.64 lot, about 1600 USD, cumulative 3175 USD
  • Loss 8: 1.28 lot, about 3200 USD, cumulative 6375 USD

  • The default limit of 20 recovery steps is far higher than any realistic account can support. At step 20 the position size would reach 5242 lots. The limit only decides when the sequence restarts at the base lot, and the EA does not stop itself before that point. You must therefore set the maximum number of steps to a value your balance can actually survive. A limit of 4 to 6 steps is a far more realistic starting point than the default.
  • Set the martingale multiplier to 1.0 if you prefer flat position sizing with no recovery. Each loss then costs about 25 USD per 0.01 lot.
  • The default Take Profit is equal to the Stop Loss, so the strategy does not rely on an unusually high win rate to break even.
  • The trailing stop is applied to the average entry price and is only active while the recovery sequence is at its first step. Once the sequence is running, the fixed Stop Loss governs the exit.
  • New users should begin on a demo account or with 0.01 lot until they understand the EA's trading frequency, execution behaviour and position management.

Important Information

The EA does not guarantee profits. Historical tests and previous results do not guarantee future performance.

Backtest results may differ from live trading because of spread, commission, latency, slippage, liquidity and broker execution.

Martingale position sizing increases exposure after a loss. A sustained run of losing trades can consume a large part of an account, and in the worst case all of it. Trade only with money you can afford to lose.

Always test the EA under your own broker conditions before increasing the lot size or risk.

Product support is provided through the Product comments section and the MQL5 messaging system.
