Compare strategy modes and position management

Onyx Trend Scalper offers two strategy modes with configurable stop and trailing behaviour. Choose a mode and sizing method, then review its operation in MetaTrader 5. Start with the Market demo and compare configurations on the same historical period before selecting your settings.

What you control

• Select between the existing strategy modes and the available stop style.
• Choose fixed volume or percentage-based sizing.
• Use an optional sizing adjustment, daily entry protection and calendar controls.
• Review operating information and recorded trade-result labels in one ONYX panel.

The optional position-sizing counter tracks stop-loss-triggered exits, including profitable trailing-stop exits, rather than simply counting losing trades. It changes exposure after the configured sequence. A multiplier below one reduces the calculated volume; a value above one increases it. This control does not recover losses or promise lower drawdown.

The ONYX approach

ONYX approaches trading as an engineering task: define entry rules, calculate exposure, specify management and examine the resulting orders and executions in testing. Historical checks help evaluate behaviour; they do not certify future returns.

Requirements and operating limits

A MetaTrader 5 hedging account is required. Evaluate the product on your broker's gold symbol and check contract size, price units, tick value, volume constraints, stops, margin and execution costs. No universal minimum deposit or broker compatibility is promised. Keep the terminal connected, running and authorized for algorithmic trading. A VPS is optional infrastructure and is not included.

The daily entry guard is balance-based, not a peak-equity loss cap. The live news filter is not simulated in the Strategy Tester; calendar errors can retain the previous filter state. Holiday restrictions are predefined. The optional trailing delay postpones trailing activation, not trade entry, and does not certify compliance with any prop-firm rules. Broker presets require checking your broker's price units.

Understand the sizing

Factory settings in version 1.07 use a fixed lot of 0.01, with the optional stop-exit volume adjustment disabled. Percentage-based sizing remains available. Fixed volume is not a percentage risk cap: cash risk depends on stop distance, contract specification and account size.

Percentage sizing uses account balance. The optional stop-exit sequence multiplier affects the calculated size; it is not a guaranteed maximum-loss or account-wide exposure limit. Initial stop-loss price risk is estimated from the normalized entry and stop prices. If the risk budget cannot support the broker's minimum volume, the entry is skipped instead of increasing the lot. Invalid fixed base volumes are rejected. Percentage sizing rounds the base volume down before applying the stop-exit multiplier, then rounds the final volume down again. A multiplier above one increases the effective risk budget; it also affects fixed sizing. A final volume below the broker minimum is skipped. The initial fill-based stop adjustment can widen or tighten the stop and change the risk estimated at placement. Pre-entry checks include current margin and broker price and volume constraints; they cannot reserve margin for future pending-order activation. Multiple orders or strategies can create combined exposure. Review the actual volume and cash risk, not only the percentage shown in Inputs. Commissions, swaps, slippage and gaps can increase losses.

• ClientLanguage: Language compatibility selector. Both available options display the panel in English.

Inputs: identification

• InpMagic: Trade ownership identifier; use unique values for separate instances on the same symbol.
• TradeComment: Comment attached to new orders.

Inputs: broker

• BrokerType: Select the existing broker-specific execution preset; not automatic broker certification.

Inputs: lot and risk

• InpLotCalcMode: Select automatic risk profile, custom percentage or fixed size. Sizing is not a guaranteed loss cap.
• InpAutoRiskMode: Used only with automatic risk profile; predefined risk selection.
• InpRiskPercent: Percentage sizing uses account balance. The optional stop-exit sequence multiplier affects the calculated size; it is not a guaranteed maximum-loss or account-wide exposure limit.
• InpFixedLot: Volume selected for fixed sizing; review actual broker volume constraints before use.

Inputs: strategy

• EAMode: Select one of the existing strategy modes; does not change the chart timeframe.

Inputs: stops and trailing

• Mode1Stop: Select the existing stop style used by strategy mode 1.

Inputs: risk protection

• UseDD_Protection: Apply the configured volume multiplier after the selected sequence of stop-loss-triggered exits, including profitable trailing-stop exits.
• MaxConsecLosses: Stop-exit count that activates the configured sizing adjustment; despite the legacy name, this does not count only trades with negative profit. A take-profit exit resets the counter.
• DD_LotMultiplier: Position-size multiplier while stop-exit sequence protection is active. Below one reduces size; above one increases size and exposure.
• MaxDailyDD_Pct: TREND balance-based daily drawdown entry guard; zero disables it. It is not a universal prop-firm loss cap.

Inputs: news

• UseNewsFilter: Enable live high-impact USD calendar pauses; tester cannot model this live calendar branch.
• NewsStopBeforeMin: Pause duration before a relevant news event, in minutes.
• NewsStopAfterMin: Pause duration after a relevant news event, in minutes.

Inputs: holidays

• UseHolidayFilter: Enable the retained holiday restriction; not a complete live exchange holiday service.

Inputs: prop: trailing delay

• UsePropFirmDelay: Delay trailing activation; does not guarantee compliance with every prop-firm rule.
• PropFirmDelaySec: Delay before trailing is allowed after entry, in seconds.

Inputs: panel and chart

• ShowPanel: Display the information panel; it does not authorize trading.
• PanelX: Horizontal panel offset.
• PanelY: Vertical panel offset.
• ShowPnLLabels: Show recorded trade-result labels on the chart.

Evaluate before live use

Start with the Market demo in the Strategy Tester using your broker's data. Review individual trades, drawdown, costs and logs. If the behaviour meets your requirements, choose purchase or one-month rental and evaluate the licensed version on a demo account before committing real funds. Backtests and screenshots show historical operation, not verified live performance or a forecast.

Purchase, rental and support

Licensing and installation are handled by MQL5 Market. The Market demo runs in the Strategy Tester; it is not a free live-account trial. Activations relate to hardware and operating-system configurations under Market rules, not five separate trading-account licences. Plan for open positions before rental expiry: the Expert Advisor stops managing them when its licence expires. Support is available through MQL5 messages and product comments.

Risk disclosure

Trading can result in substantial losses. Stop losses do not guarantee execution at the requested price. No profile, filter or automated process guarantees profit, protects against every market condition or removes the need to monitor trading. Historical results do not guarantee future returns.
