Octopus Arts is a fully automated Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5, developed primarily for XAUUSD (Gold) on hedging accounts.

The system combines grid-based DCA, trend-following position management, and a proprietary hedge recovery mechanism.

MARKET BEHAVIOR

Octopus Arts is designed to adapt to different market environments.

During shorter sideways periods, the system can manage repeated price fluctuations through its internal position-management logic.

When the market develops a strong directional breakout, Octopus Arts is designed to follow the prevailing market direction and give favorable positions more room to develop toward the predefined equity target.

The EA also includes internal sideways-market filters designed to identify broader ranging structures and reduce unnecessary exposure when market conditions become less favorable.

These filters are intended to reduce risk, but they cannot completely eliminate drawdown during prolonged sideways or highly volatile conditions.

PROFIT AND LOSS MANAGEMENT

Octopus Arts follows a different philosophy from systems that focus mainly on frequent small take-profits.

The strategy is designed to give profitable trading cycles more room to develop when market conditions are favorable.

At the same time, unfavorable positions may be closed, reduced or restructured earlier according to the EA's internal risk and recovery rules.

In simple terms:

• Give profitable cycles room to develop
• Manage losing cycles earlier when required
• Follow the prevailing market direction
• Reduce unnecessary exposure during unfavorable sideways conditions
• Aim to complete the trading cycle at the configured equity target

The detailed recovery, hedge, range and execution algorithms are proprietary and operate automatically inside the EA.

CAPITAL AND DRAWDOWN CONSIDERATIONS

Octopus Arts uses grid/DCA and hedging techniques.

These methods can generate substantial floating drawdown during prolonged sideways markets, strong volatility or other unfavorable market conditions.

Under severe and extended sideways conditions, floating drawdown may approach approximately 50% or more, depending on:

• Market volatility
• Initial Lot
• Account balance
• Leverage
• Spread and slippage
• Broker execution conditions
• Future market behavior

The reference Strategy Tester configuration uses:

Initial Balance: 100,000 USD
Initial Lot: 0.01

Therefore, 100,000 USD with Initial Lot 0.01 should be considered a reference capital configuration, rather than a guaranteed minimum capital requirement.

Users operating with different account sizes should evaluate the Initial Lot carefully and test the EA under their own broker conditions before live trading.

Initial Lot — Default: 0.01
Sets the starting lot size for a new trading cycle.

Profit Target (%) — Default: 10.0
Sets the equity profit target used by the global target-management system.

Primary trading symbol: XAUUSD
Account type: Hedging
Recommended Strategy Tester timeframe: M1

For backtesting, use XAUUSD on the M1 timeframe with high-quality historical data. Optimization is not required for the standard configuration.

The EA uses its own internal timeframe logic for several strategy components, so the M1 setting above refers specifically to the recommended Strategy Tester setup.

The EA requires Algo Trading to be enabled.

Before using Octopus Arts on a live trading account, users should test the EA in the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester and on a demo account using their own broker specifications.
