I've spent some time modelling markets using economic data and I've observed that the trick with economic data is realising that the same variables are being used differently through time. Like for example during good economic times, countries may set their interest rates to bolster their economies and boost the growth. However, during times of unrest and geo-political tension, countries may use their interest rates as weapons of war. Therefore any trading strategy we build using economic data is sensitive to the current global landscape. If the global landscape changes and world leaders start using their tools in a different way, but your trading strategy is still using the old rules that worked in the "good old days", you're done for. And your strategy may not work as good as it can potentially, until those economic conditions you've set it up for are restored.
