Open the gold trading chart provided by your broker.
-
Drag Gold Engineer Hunter onto the chart.
If you received a source or compiled EA file through an authorized distribution, place it in the appropriate MQL5/Experts directory. Source files must be compiled before use.
Step 2 — Enable Automated Trading
Before starting the EA:
-
Open the EA properties window.
-
Enable algorithmic trading permission for the EA.
-
Activate Algo Trading on the MetaTrader 5 toolbar.
-
Check that the account and trading symbol permit automated orders.
The trading terminal must remain connected and able to process price updates for the EA to operate.
A MetaTrader-compatible VPS may be used when continuous operation is required.
Step 3 — Select the Trading Symbol
Gold Engineer Hunter is primarily developed for gold trading.
The symbol name may vary between brokers, for example:
-
XAUUSD
-
XAUUSDm
-
XAUUSD.a
Use the gold symbol available on your broker's trading account.
Symbol specifications, spreads, contract sizes, volume limits, and execution conditions may differ between brokers.
Step 4 — Open the Input Settings
After attaching the EA to the chart, open the Inputs tab.
The settings are divided into 11 categories:

Gold Engineer Hunter includes predefined operating settings.
The following table highlights the main defaults that users should review before starting the EA.
| Setting | Default Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Trading Time Reference | GE_TIME_SERVER | Uses broker server time |
| Fixed Lot | 0.01 | Fixed-volume trading mode |
| Risk Percentage | 2.0 | Used only when Fixed Lot is set to 0 |
| Stop Loss | 4.0 | Initial price-distance setting |
| Take Profit | 20 | Initial price-distance setting |
| Break-even Trigger | 1.0 | Break-even activation threshold |
| Trailing Start | 1.0 | Trailing activation threshold |
| Maximum Spread | 0.35 | Maximum entry spread in price units |
| Maximum Daily Loss | 6.0% | Closed-loss-based entry restriction |
| Trade During News | true | News entry restrictions are disabled |
| Daily Entry Cutoff | 22:00 | Stops new entries |
| End-of-Day Close | true | Scheduled EA position closing enabled |
| End-of-Day Closing Time | 22:00 | Closing time in the selected time reference |
Important: The default configuration is not a guarantee that the settings are suitable for every account or broker.
Users should verify symbol specifications, trading costs, account size, and intended risk before operating with real funds.
This section controls when Gold Engineer Hunter is allowed to evaluate new trading opportunities and when it should stop opening or maintaining pending orders.
InpTimeReference
Default: GE_TIME_SERVER
Selects the time reference used by the EA.
Available options:
GE_TIME_SERVER
Uses the trading server time provided by your broker.
This is the default mode and does not require manual GMT offset configuration for live trading schedules.
GE_TIME_GMT
Uses GMT/UTC as the reference for scheduled trading controls.
During live operation, the EA calculates the current difference between the broker's server time and GMT.
Example:
If your broker operates at GMT+3 and you configure an entry cutoff at 22:00 GMT, the equivalent server time is 01:00 on the following day.
Always check which time reference you selected before changing scheduled trading hours.
InpTesterBrokerGMTOffset
Default: 0.0
Specifies the broker's GMT offset in hours when using GMT mode during Strategy Tester operation.
Examples:
| Historical Broker Time | Value |
|---|---|
| GMT+0 | 0 |
| GMT+2 | 2 |
| GMT+3 | 3 |
| GMT-5 | -5 |
This parameter is intended for historical testing.
MetaTrader 5 does not automatically provide the actual historical broker GMT offset through its standard simulated time functions.
If the broker changed time zones during daylight-saving transitions, a single fixed offset may not accurately represent an entire historical period.
InpEndTime
Default: 22:00
Defines when the EA stops evaluating new trading entries.
At or after this time, the EA removes its pending orders and stops initiating new entries for the remainder of the reference day.
Existing open positions continue to be managed unless scheduled position closing is enabled.
Time format: HH:MM, using the 24-hour clock.
InpFridayStopHour
Default: 20
Defines the Friday entry cutoff hour.
For example, a value of 20 stops new entry evaluation from 20:00 on Friday according to the selected time reference.
Set the value to -1 to disable the Friday-specific restriction.
InpCloseAtEndOfDay
Default: true
Enables or disables automatic end-of-day closing of positions managed by the EA.
When enabled, the EA attempts to:
-
Delete its pending orders.
-
Close positions associated with the current symbol and Magic Number.
This does not instruct the EA to close every trade belonging to the entire account.
When disabled, existing positions remain subject to the normal position management rules.
InpCloseAllTime
Default: 22:00
Defines the end-of-day closing time.
The setting works together with InpCloseAtEndOfDay.
For example:
-
InpCloseAtEndOfDay = true
-
InpCloseAllTime = 21:30
The EA attempts to close its managed positions at or after 21:30 according to the selected time reference.
Execution occurs when the EA receives a market tick and the broker permits the relevant trade operations. Closing at the exact configured second cannot be guaranteed.
InpMaxSpread
Default: 0.35
Specifies the maximum allowed Bid–Ask spread when placing new orders.
The value is expressed in symbol price units, not account currency or broker points.
Example:
-
Bid: 3000.00
-
Ask: 3000.28
-
Spread: 0.28
If InpMaxSpread = 0.35, the spread is within the configured limit.
If the spread increases to 0.45, the EA prevents new order placement under this condition.
These settings define the initial protective price levels associated with new trades.
InpSL
Default: 4.0
Defines the initial Stop Loss distance in symbol price units.
Example for a hypothetical Buy entry:
-
Entry Price: 3000.00
-
Stop Loss Distance: 4.00
-
Initial Stop Loss: 2996.00
This is a price-distance calculation, not a fixed monetary loss.
InpTP
Default: 20
Defines the Take Profit distance in symbol price units.
Example for a hypothetical Buy entry:
-
Entry Price: 3000.00
-
Take Profit Distance: 20.00
-
Take Profit: 3020.00
The monetary value of either price movement depends on position volume and the broker's contract specifications.
Important: Always check the symbol's tick size, minimum stop distance, and execution rules. The broker may reject orders whose protective price levels do not meet its requirements.
Gold Engineer Hunter includes automatic position protection functions that can adjust Stop Loss levels as market prices move.
InpBETrigger
Default: 1.0
Defines the favorable price movement required before the Break-even management function becomes active.
For example, if a Buy position is opened at 3000.00, a trigger value of 1.0 means the Break-even condition becomes eligible after the relevant market price reaches 3001.00.
Once activated, the EA calculates the new Stop Loss according to its internal Break-even rules.
The final modification must also satisfy the broker's stop-level and freeze-level restrictions.
InpTrailStart
Default: 1.0
Defines the favorable price movement required before Trailing Stop management can begin.
After activation, the EA evaluates whether the position's protective Stop Loss should be adjusted.
The trailing distance and modification step are managed internally by the EA.
Important Notes:
-
Break-even and Trailing Stop are not guaranteed to activate at an exact price.
-
Broker restrictions may prevent certain Stop Loss modifications.
-
Stop Loss modifications require the terminal to receive market data and the broker to accept the request.
-
A protective Stop Loss cannot guarantee execution at its specified price during gaps or rapid market movements.
This section allows users to choose how trading volume is calculated and configure the daily closed-loss restriction.
InpFixedLot
Default: 0.01
Defines the fixed trading volume.
When this value is greater than zero, Gold Engineer Hunter uses fixed-lot mode.
Example:
InpFixedLot = 0.01
The EA requests the corresponding fixed trade volume, subject to broker minimum volume, maximum volume, and volume-step restrictions.
To enable percentage-based lot calculation, set:
InpFixedLot = 0
InpRiskPct
Default: 2.0
Defines the percentage of account Balance used to estimate risk per trade when fixed-lot mode is disabled.
This setting is active only when:
InpFixedLot = 0
Example configuration:
-
InpFixedLot = 0
-
InpRiskPct = 1.0
In this example, the EA calculates a target trading volume based on an estimated 1% balance risk and the configured initial Stop Loss distance.
The actual monetary exposure may differ because of broker volume limits, minimum volume, execution prices, and transaction costs.
Important: Percentage-based position sizing is an estimation method, not a guaranteed loss limit.
InpMaxLot
Default: 5.0
Defines the maximum calculated trading volume in percentage-based position sizing mode.
This parameter limits the calculated lot size when InpFixedLot = 0.
It does not independently cap the fixed-lot setting.
Broker volume restrictions still apply in both modes.
InpMaxDailyLoss
Default: 6.0
Defines the daily closed-loss threshold used to restrict new entries.
The EA evaluates the applicable closed trading results for the current reference day.
When the calculated loss reaches the configured threshold, the EA stops placing new entries.
For example:
InpMaxDailyLoss = 4.0
This establishes a closed-loss-based entry restriction equivalent to the configured 4% balance threshold.
To disable the restriction:
InpMaxDailyLoss = 0
Important: This feature:
-
Evaluates recorded closed trading results.
-
Does not include current floating losses in its restriction calculation.
-
Does not automatically close positions when the threshold is reached.
-
Does not guarantee that the account's total daily loss cannot exceed the selected percentage.
InpMagic
Default: 1314520
The Magic Number identifies trading activity associated with the EA.
It helps Gold Engineer Hunter distinguish its own orders and positions from other automated trading activity.
When running different EA configurations, assigning a separate Magic Number is recommended.
Avoid using identical Magic Numbers for unrelated strategies operating on the same trading symbol.
On netting accounts, positions on the same symbol may be combined by the trading platform, so separate Magic Numbers do not provide complete isolation between different strategies.
InpDeviation
Default: 30
Defines permitted execution deviation for applicable trading requests.
The unit is broker points.
This setting does not guarantee an execution price or prevent all slippage.
InpComment
Default: Gold Engineer Ultra
Defines the order comment submitted by the EA.
This field can be customized to help identify trading activity in terminal history.
For example:
Gold Engineer Hunter
The broker may modify, shorten, or replace order comments.
The News Trading Filter allows users to choose whether new trading entries should be restricted around selected economic announcements.
This function operates separately from the visibility of the Economic News Panel.
InpTradeDuringNews
Default: true
This is the primary setting controlling news-based entry restrictions.
When set to true:
The EA continues normal trading evaluation during economic announcements.
News-based entry restrictions are not applied.
When set to false:
The EA checks applicable scheduled economic events and may temporarily restrict new entries around selected announcements.
During the restricted period, it also removes its pending orders.
Existing open positions continue to be managed under normal position management rules.
Example:
To restrict trading around selected economic announcements:
InpTradeDuringNews = false
Then review the impact-level and before/after timing settings.
InpNewsBlockBeforeMin
Default: 15
Defines how many minutes before a selected economic announcement the entry restriction begins.
InpNewsBlockAfterMin
Default: 15
Defines how many minutes after a selected economic announcement the restriction remains active.
Example:
Suppose an eligible event is scheduled for 14:30.
With the default settings:
-
Before News: 15 minutes.
-
After News: 15 minutes.
The trading restriction covers approximately 14:15 to 14:45, using the economic calendar's event time.
This applies only when the news entry restriction is activated and the required calendar data is available.
InpBlockHighImpact
Default: true
Includes high-impact economic events in the news entry restriction.
InpBlockMediumImpact
Default: true
Includes medium-impact economic events in the news entry restriction.
InpBlockLowImpact
Default: false
Determines whether low-impact events are also included in the news entry restriction.
Example configuration:
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| InpTradeDuringNews | false |
| InpBlockHighImpact | true |
| InpBlockMediumImpact | true |
| InpBlockLowImpact | false |
| InpNewsBlockBeforeMin | 15 |
| InpNewsBlockAfterMin | 15 |
This configuration restricts new trading entries around selected high- and medium-impact economic events.
Important: The EA requires available economic calendar data to identify news restriction periods. If relevant calendar data is unavailable, the restriction cannot be guaranteed.
These settings control which economic events appear on the chart.
InpOnlySymbolCurrencies
Default: true
When enabled, the News Panel focuses on currencies associated with the current trading symbol.
For a conventional XAUUSD symbol, USD economic announcements are generally the most relevant currency events.
When disabled, the panel may display economic events for additional currencies, subject to the selected impact filters.
The trade entry restriction still checks event currencies relevant to the trading symbol.
InpShowHigh
Default: true
Displays high-impact economic events.
InpShowMedium
Default: true
Displays medium-impact economic events.
InpShowLow
Default: false
Displays low-impact economic events.
These display settings are separate from the High, Medium, and Low settings used by the news trading restriction.
InpDaysAhead
Default: 1
Defines how many upcoming calendar days the EA requests from the economic calendar.
A larger value requests events farther into the future and may increase the amount of calendar data processed.
InpMaxRows
Default: 10
Defines the maximum number of economic event rows displayed in the News Panel.
Users can reduce the number of visible rows to save chart space.
InpKeepReleasedMinutes
Default: 5
Defines how long a recently released economic announcement remains visible on the News Panel.
For example:
InpKeepReleasedMinutes = 5
The panel continues showing an eligible released event for the configured period while updated Actual, Forecast, and Previous values may become available.
Actual data availability depends on the MetaTrader 5 economic calendar service.
Gold Engineer Hunter supports optional alerts related to scheduled economic events.
InpEnableAlerts
Default: true
Enables or disables the economic event alert system.
InpAlertBeforeMinutes
Default: 10
Defines the number of minutes before an eligible announcement when an alert may be issued.
InpPopupAlert
Default: true
Enables popup notifications within the MetaTrader 5 terminal.
InpPushNotification
Default: false
Enables push notifications when MetaTrader notifications have been configured.
To use push notifications:
-
Open MetaTrader 5.
-
Navigate to Tools → Options → Notifications.
-
Configure the supported mobile notification settings.
-
Test notifications using the terminal's available controls.
-
Enable InpPushNotification in the EA.
The main alert switch, InpEnableAlerts, must also be enabled.
These parameters control the frequency of economic calendar data updates.
InpNormalRefreshSec
Default: 60
Defines the standard calendar refresh interval in seconds.
InpNearNewsRefreshSec
Default: 10
Defines the calendar refresh interval when an eligible event is approaching.
The EA uses this near-news refresh mode when an event is within its internal approaching-news window.
InpReleasedRefreshSec
Default: 5
Defines the refresh interval for recently released economic announcements.
Faster refresh intervals may increase terminal processing and calendar requests.
The default values provide separate refresh schedules for normal conditions, approaching events, and recently released announcements.
Gold Engineer Hunter includes an on-chart dashboard displaying account information, EA trading statistics, and selected performance indicators.
InpShowTradingDashboard
Default: true
Displays the Trading Performance Dashboard when the EA starts.
Users may also show or hide the dashboard directly using the EA INFO button on the chart.
InpShowEconomicPanel
Default: true
Displays the Economic News Panel when the EA starts.
The panel can also be shown or hidden using the NEWS button.
Hiding the News Panel does not disable the News Trading Filter.
InpDashboardRefreshSec
Default: 2
Defines how frequently the Trading Performance Dashboard is updated during normal chart operation.
The value is expressed in seconds.
The Strategy Tester uses a separate internal visual refresh mechanism.
InpPerformanceHistoryDays
Default: 90
Defines the historical lookback period used for the dashboard's closed-deal performance statistics.
The selected period affects:
-
Historical Closed Net P/L.
-
Closed-deal count.
-
Win Rate.
-
Profit Factor.
-
Recent closed-deal performance chart.
Example:
InpPerformanceHistoryDays = 30
The dashboard calculates the relevant closed-deal statistics using approximately the most recent 30 days of available history.
These values are not equivalent to complete account-lifetime performance.
InpHistoryRefreshSec
Default: 60
Defines a backup refresh interval for historical trading statistics.
The EA also marks historical performance data for refreshing when relevant trading activity changes.
This helps reduce unnecessary historical data processing.
The Trading Performance Dashboard displays several different categories of information.
| Dashboard Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Balance | Current account balance |
| Equity | Current account equity |
| Floating P/L | Floating result of positions tracked by the EA |
| Today Net P/L | Applicable closed-deal result for the current reference day |
| Closed Net P/L | Closed-deal result within the configured history period |
| Win Rate | Percentage of profitable closing deals |
| Profit Factor | Gross positive closing-deal results divided by gross negative closing-deal results |
| Floating DD | Current Equity shortfall relative to Balance, expressed as a percentage |
| Deals / Open / Pend | Closing deals, EA open positions, and EA pending orders |
| News Entry Filter | Shows whether news-based entry restrictions are enabled |
Important distinctions:
Balance and Equity refer to the entire trading account.
EA performance statistics are filtered by the current symbol and Magic Number.
Win Rate is calculated from closing deals, not necessarily complete trading positions. The dashboard's performance chart represents recent closing-deal results, not the account's complete historical equity curve.
Floating DD is not the same as maximum historical drawdown.
These indicators are informational and should not be interpreted as forecasts of future performance.
The following examples demonstrate how different operating preferences can be configured.
They are not verified optimal settings or recommendations for any specific account.
Example A — Fixed-Lot Configuration
This configuration uses a fixed trading volume.
| Parameter | Example |
|---|---|
| InpFixedLot | 0.01 |
| InpSL | 4.0 |
| InpTP | 20 |
| InpBETrigger | 1.0 |
| InpTrailStart | 1.0 |
| InpMaxSpread | 0.35 |
| InpTimeReference | GE_TIME_SERVER |
With InpFixedLot > 0, the risk-percentage calculation is not used.
A fixed lot size does not imply fixed monetary risk across brokers or symbols.
Example B — Percentage-Based Volume
This configuration demonstrates percentage-based lot calculation.
| Parameter | Example |
|---|---|
| InpFixedLot | 0 |
| InpRiskPct | 1.0 |
| InpMaxLot | 1.0 |
| InpSL | 4.0 |
The EA estimates trading volume using Balance, the selected risk percentage, and the initial Stop Loss distance.
Volume normalization and broker minimum lot size may cause actual exposure to differ from the intended percentage.
Users should verify the resulting lot size on a demo account before live use.
Example C — News-Restricted Trading
This configuration demonstrates how to restrict new entries around selected announcements.
| Parameter | Example |
|---|---|
| InpTradeDuringNews | false |
| InpNewsBlockBeforeMin | 15 |
| InpNewsBlockAfterMin | 15 |
| InpBlockHighImpact | true |
| InpBlockMediumImpact | true |
| InpBlockLowImpact | false |
The restriction is applied when the selected economic events are identified in available calendar data.
Example D — End-of-Day Position Closing
| Parameter | Example |
|---|---|
| InpTimeReference | GE_TIME_SERVER |
| InpEndTime | 21:30 |
| InpCloseAtEndOfDay | true |
| InpCloseAllTime | 22:00 |
In this example, the EA stops evaluating new entries from 21:30.
At or after 22:00, it attempts to close its managed positions and delete its pending orders.
The actual execution time depends on the broker and the arrival of market ticks.
MetaTrader 5 allows users to save EA settings for later use.
Saving a configuration:
-
Open the EA properties window.
-
Select the Inputs tab.
-
Adjust the required parameters.
-
Click Save.
-
Save the configuration as a .set file.
Loading a saved configuration:
-
Open the EA Inputs tab.
-
Click Load.
-
Select the desired .set file.
-
Review the imported settings.
-
Confirm the configuration.
Saved configuration files are useful when comparing different settings or reinstalling the EA.
Always review the trading symbol, account conditions, position sizing, and broker time settings before loading a configuration on a different account.
Gold Engineer Hunter can be evaluated using the MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester.
Recommended Testing Procedure
-
Open the Strategy Tester in MetaTrader 5.
-
Select Gold Engineer Hunter.
-
Choose the intended trading symbol.
-
Select the historical testing period.
-
Choose the available tick-data testing mode appropriate for execution-sensitive strategies.
-
Configure the EA Inputs.
-
Run the test.
-
Review the results, order execution, drawdown, and Strategy Tester Journal.
When suitable historical tick data is available, testing with real ticks can provide a more detailed simulation of spread variations and trade execution than simplified price-generation modes.
However, historical simulations cannot reproduce every condition of live trading.
Visual and Non-Visual Testing
Visual Mode
Use this mode to observe price movements, EA trading activity, and the Trading Performance Dashboard.
The dashboard uses a separate internal refresh limit during visual testing to reduce unnecessary chart updates.
Non-Visual Mode
Use this mode when the primary objective is to evaluate the trading results without chart animations.
The EA skips unnecessary visual panel processing in non-visual testing.
Important Limitation — Economic News
The MetaTrader 5 native Economic Calendar is not used by this EA during Strategy Tester operation.
Consequently, the news entry restriction is bypassed during historical testing in this version.
This means:
-
Backtests do not reproduce the live news restriction behavior.
-
The News Panel does not display the equivalent historical economic calendar.
-
Results from live trading with news restrictions enabled may differ from historical tests.
Users should consider this limitation when interpreting backtest results.
GMT Settings in Backtesting
When using:
InpTimeReference = GE_TIME_GMT
The historical broker GMT offset must be entered through:
InpTesterBrokerGMTOffset
If the selected test period includes daylight-saving changes, a single fixed offset may not match every part of the historical period.
Problem: The EA Does Not Open Trades
Possible causes:
-
Algo Trading is disabled.
-
The trading account does not permit automated orders.
-
The spread exceeds the configured maximum.
-
The EA's entry conditions have not been met.
-
The configured daily entry limit has been reached.
-
The daily closed-loss restriction is active.
-
The current time is outside the EA's permitted entry periods.
-
The market is closed.
-
The broker rejects the requested order type, price, volume, or protective levels.
Recommended action:
Check the Experts and Journal tabs in MetaTrader 5.
Confirm the symbol specifications and review the order-related messages.
The EA operates according to predefined internal entry checkpoints and does not necessarily place orders immediately after being attached to a chart.
Problem: Trading Volume Is Different from the Entered Value
Possible causes:
-
Broker minimum volume restrictions.
-
Broker maximum volume restrictions.
-
Volume-step normalization.
-
Percentage-based lot calculation.
Recommended action:
Review InpFixedLot, InpRiskPct, and InpMaxLot.
Check the symbol's minimum lot size and volume increment.
Problem: The News Panel Is Empty
Possible causes:
-
Economic calendar data is unavailable.
-
The selected event filters exclude the available events.
-
The selected currency filter excludes the events.
-
No eligible events are scheduled in the selected calendar window.
-
The EA is running in Strategy Tester.
Recommended action:
Check the calendar availability, currency filters, event impact settings, and look-ahead period.
Problem: The EA Trades During Economic News
Possible causes:
-
InpTradeDuringNews = true.
-
The relevant impact level is disabled.
-
The required economic calendar information is unavailable.
-
The EA is running in Strategy Tester.
Recommended action:
Review the news filter settings and confirm the availability of the relevant live calendar data.
Problem: Stop Loss or Trailing Stop Is Not Updated
Possible causes:
-
The required favorable price movement has not occurred.
-
The broker's Stop Level or Freeze Level prevents the modification.
-
Trading permissions or market conditions prevent the request.
Recommended action:
Check InpBETrigger, InpTrailStart, the broker's stop restrictions, and the terminal Journal.
Problem: Trading Hours Are Incorrect
Possible causes:
-
GMT mode is selected instead of Broker Server Time.
-
The broker GMT offset is incorrect in Strategy Tester.
-
The broker operates with a different server-time convention.
Recommended action:
Review InpTimeReference and InpTesterBrokerGMTOffset.
For a straightforward initial configuration, Broker Server Time is the default reference.
Problem: The Dashboard Does Not Display Historical Results
Possible causes:
-
No applicable closing deals exist in the configured history period.
-
The selected Magic Number does not match previous EA trades.
-
The EA is attached to a different symbol.
-
The required trading history is unavailable.
Recommended action:
Check InpMagic, the chart symbol, and InpPerformanceHistoryDays.
Problem: Visual Backtesting Is Slow
Possible causes:
-
Very large tick datasets.
-
Strategy Tester visualization overhead.
-
Chart object rendering.
-
Hardware and terminal resource limitations.
Recommended action:
Use Non-Visual Mode when testing strategy results without needing the chart interface.
Reduce unnecessary chart indicators and close unused terminal windows.
Visual Mode is best suited to examining chart behavior and order execution.
