Multi-Level or Scalp? Choosing a Gold EA That Fits Your Account
Every gold robot loses sometimes. The real question is which way of losing your account can survive. Most traders pick a gold EA by its backtest curve, but multi-level and scalping robots lose in completely different ways, and that difference matters more than any curve.
How a multi-level EA works
It opens a first trade and, if gold moves against it, adds more positions and closes them together as one basket. Most baskets close in profit, so the win rate is high. The cost is that the rare deep basket can create a large floating loss, especially when later levels are bigger than the first. Protection comes from a Max Drawdown limit, not from a stop loss on each trade.
This style suits accounts of roughly $1,000 or more, and traders who can accept occasional deep drawdowns in exchange for frequent small wins.
How a scalping EA works
It takes one trade at a time with a real stop loss from the moment the trade opens. Losses are small and defined, and winners are protected with break-even and trailing stops. The win rate is lower, and several losses in a row are normal.
This style suits smaller accounts, from about $100, and traders who want to know the maximum loss of every trade before it happens.
A simple rule
Before choosing, answer two questions:
1. How much capital am I putting on this account?
2. Would I rather see small losses often, or a large drawdown rarely?
If your answers are "under $1,000" and "small losses often", start with a scalper. If they are "$1,000 or more" and "a large drawdown rarely", a multi-level EA can fit, as long as you set its Max Drawdown limit consciously.
Two examples
Aurion is a multi-level gold EA for XAUUSD on M15, designed for accounts from $1,000.
Razor Gold is a gold scalper with a stop loss on every trade, starting from $100.
Whichever style you choose, test it on a demo account first.
