The same Expert Advisor can show different results on two accounts at two brokers. On gold the reasons are usually concrete and measurable: spread, StopLevel, commission, slippage and contract size. This post shows where to find each of them in MetaTrader, what values we recommend for Gold Storm PRO, and how to check a broker before you run the EA on a live account.

1. Spread: check the average, not the minimum

The spread is the difference between the Buy and Sell price, and you pay it on every trade. For Gold Storm PRO we recommend an average XAUUSD spread of up to 20 cents.

  • Where to look: Market Watch, right-click, "Spread" column. Watch it during 10:00–16:00 UTC, when the EA trades, not at a quiet hour.
  • How to read it: most brokers quote gold with 2 decimals, so 20 cents is shown as 20 points. If your broker quotes 3 decimals, the same 20 cents is 200 points.
  • Advertised "from 0.0" spreads describe the best moment, not the average. What matters is the typical value during the trading window.

2. StopLevel: how close orders may be placed

StopLevel is the minimum distance from the current price at which the broker accepts pending orders and Stop Loss or Take Profit levels. Gold Storm PRO places Buy Stop and Sell Stop orders at a volatility-based distance and trails its stops, so a large StopLevel limits how it can work. We recommend up to 30 cents.

  • Where to look: Market Watch, right-click XAUUSD, "Specification", the "Stops level" line. The value is in points: 30 points at 2 decimals equals 30 cents.
  • A value of 0 usually means the broker sets no fixed minimum.

3. Account type and commission

We recommend Raw or ECN accounts. They have a lower spread and charge a commission per lot instead. For the real cost of a trade, add the two together: spread plus commission for a round turn. Compare brokers by this total, not by the spread alone.

4. Slippage: the part you only see in the history

When a Buy Stop or Sell Stop order triggers, it is filled at the best available price, which during a fast move can differ from the order price. That difference is slippage. It is most visible around high-impact news such as NFP or CPI, so keep an eye on the economic calendar.

  • How to check: in the account history, compare the price of the pending order with the price at which the position actually opened.
  • Run the EA for a week on a small live account or a demo at the same broker, then look at these differences in the trading window.

5. Contract size and margin

On most brokers 0.01 lot of XAUUSD is 1 ounce of gold, but not on all. Check the "Contract size" line in the same Specification window: it changes both the risk per trade and the margin. For Gold Storm PRO we recommend leverage of 1:100 or higher and a deposit from $500 at 1:100 (minimum $200). The EA can hold several positions at once, and each needs margin.

6. Connection and VPS

Pending orders are sent and trailed by the EA from your terminal, so a stable connection during the trading window matters. A VPS close to your broker's server keeps the terminal running and protects your activations from Windows reinstalls on your home computer.

Where we have verified the results

We have verified Gold Storm PRO on Vantage and FxPro. Our live signal runs on a Vantage Raw account. This does not mean other brokers are bad. It means we have checked these two ourselves. At any broker, compare the values above with our recommended conditions. With a wider spread or a larger StopLevel, results will differ from the signal.

A short checklist

  • Average XAUUSD spread in 10:00–16:00 UTC: up to 20 cents.
  • StopLevel: up to 30 cents.
  • Raw or ECN account; compare spread plus commission.
  • Contract size checked; leverage 1:100 or higher.
  • Slippage checked in the history after a test week.
  • VPS for a stable connection.

If you are not sure how to read a value at your broker, send us a screenshot of the XAUUSD Specification window in a private message on MQL5. We reply within 24 hours.
