A real account's worst drawdown reads 784.5%.
That is not a typo. It is a real account, shown here as an example - and I want to walk you through exactly how a number like that gets born, because the mechanism that produced it is quietly at work in your account too.
THE LIE OF THE BALANCE
Your balance is honest about one thing only: where you are. It says nothing about how close to the edge you came, and nothing about what is hiding one tick away.
Here is how it happened. Most of the capital had been withdrawn from the account, leaving about 151 dollars in it. Then one position - one - lost 1,184 dollars. The account did not stop at zero. It went through it, to minus 1,033.
Measured against the 151 dollars the account was worth before the fall, that single decline was 784.5% of it. The balance history, read casually, shows none of the drama: money out, a red trade, moving on. The balance never screams. It just updates.
THE NUMBER THAT ACTUALLY DECIDES SURVIVAL
The number that decides whether an account lives is not the balance. It is the distance between your equity and the highest point your account ever reached - your real drawdown, measured from your own peak, adjusted for deposits and withdrawals so that funding does not masquerade as performance.
Almost nobody watches this number, for a simple reason: the terminal does not show it. MetaTrader will happily show your balance, your equity, your margin - but the one figure that separates a temporary drawdown from a permanent loss, you are expected to compute yourself, from a report most traders never open.
There are three more numbers in the same family:
- Your worst losing streak ever. When you are four losses deep, it matters enormously whether your record is five or fifteen. Know the number before you meet it, and it loses its power over you.
- Your largest single loss. The worst case is not hypothetical - it has already happened, in your own history.
- The count of open positions running without a stop loss at the broker. If that number is not zero, everything else on the screen is provisional.
SO I BUILT THE THING I NEEDED
I am the developer of an XAUUSD Expert Advisor that puts a hard stop loss at the broker on 100% of its orders and prints its real drawdown on its own product page. That habit - showing the ugly number instead of hiding it - is not a marketing gimmick. It is the whole religion. https://www.mql5.com/en/market/product/191233
Kingdom Guard is that religion as a free tool. A read-only panel that sits on your chart and shows: your real drawdown from your own funding-adjusted peak, your worst drawdown ever in money and in percent, your losing streaks, your largest single loss, every month's result with the red months in red, and an alarm row that lights up the moment any position is running without a stop loss.
It never opens, modifies or closes a trade. It never sends anything anywhere. And every figure it prints can be rebuilt from your own broker report - I verified it against real accounts to the cent, including the example with the 784.5% scar. Especially that one.
AN HONEST WARNING
If you run it on your account, the numbers may be uglier than you expected. They were already true before you looked. The panel did not make them worse - it only ended the hiding.
Kingdom Guard is free on the Market. Put it on your chart, leave it there for a week, and then decide whether you still want to trade without it. https://www.mql5.com/en/market/product/192603
