There is one number almost every EA seller hides. It is the number that decides whether you survive.
Not the profit. The drawdown — the real one.
I know the tricks because I was on the buying side for years. I bought EAs that turned out to be scams. I ran the famous grid systems and watched them nurse hidden floating losses while the equity curve stayed beautiful — right up until the margin call took everything. More than once.
Here is how the hiding works:
- Showing equity drawdown while floating losses are open — the curve looks smooth because the pain is "temporarily" invisible.
- Cherry-picked date windows — the backtest starts conveniently after the disaster year.
- No losing months shown, ever — as if eight years of trading can be one green line.
- "Set files" tuned after the fact to make history look perfect.
When you buy from a page like that, the account does not kill you. The surprise does. You can survive a 30% drawdown you were told to expect. You cannot survive a 30% drawdown you were promised would never happen — because somewhere around −15% your psychology breaks, you turn the EA off at the exact bottom, and you convert a temporary drawdown into a permanent loss.
