Gold Pullback EA is a simple trend-following robot for XAUUSD (gold). It waits for the daily trend, buys or sells the pullback on H4, and lets winners run with an ATR trailing stop.
HOW IT TRADES
- Trend filter (D1): long only when EMA50 > EMA200 and the daily close is above EMA50; short only in the opposite case.
- Entry (H4): price pulls back to EMA20 within the last 3 bars, then an H4 bar closes back beyond EMA20 and beyond the previous bar's high (low for shorts).
- Stop loss: below the last 5 H4 lows (above the highs for shorts), at least 1 x ATR(14).
- Exit: trailing stop at the highest high since entry minus 3 x ATR(14) (mirror for shorts). No fixed take profit.
- One position at a time. No grid, no martingale, no averaging, no hedging.
- Lot size = risk % of balance divided by the stop distance.
BACKTEST (MT5 Strategy Tester, 1-minute OHLC, real broker spreads and swaps, XAUUSD H4, default inputs, $10,000, 0.5% risk)
- Jan 2018 - Oct 2026: profit factor 1.16, 353 trades, net +14.1%, max equity drawdown 8.8%.
- Parameters were fixed on 2018-2022 only. 2023-2026 was tested once afterwards: profit factor 1.18.
- Profit factor by year: 2018 0.87, 2019 1.06, 2020 1.88, 2021 0.45, 2022 2.25, 2023 0.76, 2024 1.15, 2025 1.93, 2026 (to Oct) 0.50.
PLEASE READ BEFORE USING
- This is a trend strategy with a modest edge. Profits come mainly from strong trend years (2020, 2022, 2025). Losing years and long flat periods are normal. 2026 is a losing year so far.
- These are backtest results only. There is no live track record yet. Past results do not guarantee future results.
- Results depend on your broker's spread and swap. Test on a demo account first.
- If your account is too small for the risk setting, the EA uses the minimum lot (option "Use minimum lot if risk-based lot is too small", default on). The actual risk per trade is then higher than the setting. Turn it off to skip such trades.
RECOMMENDED
- Symbol: XAUUSD (gold). Chart timeframe: any (the EA uses D1 and H4 internally).
- Risk: 0.5% or less per trade.
- Run on a VPS or a computer that stays on.
