Gold Asia Open Drift is an intraday Expert Advisor for XAUUSD. It trades a short window in the early Asian session, holds at most one position, always uses a stop loss and closes the trade within the same session.
Concept
The Expert Advisor looks for a recurring behaviour of gold around the start of the Asian session. A daily trend filter decides whether a session is traded. Many sessions are skipped on purpose.
It does not use martingale, grid, averaging, hedging or news trading.
How it trades
- At most one trade per session, long only.
- A stop loss based on recent volatility is placed with every order.
- The trade is closed by time within the same session, before the daily rollover, so it does not pay overnight swap.
- No entry when the spread is unusually wide.
- The strategy parameters are fixed. You only choose the position size and a few technical settings.
Requirements
- Symbol: XAUUSD (any suffix, for example XAUUSDm or GOLD). The Expert Advisor was developed and tested only on gold.
- Any chart timeframe. The Expert Advisor reads the data it needs itself.
- A broker whose gold market has a daily break, which is the case for most brokers.
- The terminal must be running during the Asian session. A VPS is recommended.
- Hedging and netting accounts are both supported. The Expert Advisor manages only positions with its own magic number.
Server time
The Expert Advisor detects the broker's server clock from the price history. It supports brokers on UTC and brokers on New York time + 7 hours (most brokers on EET). The detected clock is written to the Experts journal at start. If the detection is not correct for your broker, set "Server clock" to "Fixed UTC offset" and enter the offset.
Position size
- Fixed lot (default): 0.01 lot.
- Risk percent: the lot is sized so that the stop loss costs the given percent of equity. If the result is below the minimum lot, the trade is skipped, unless "use the minimum lot" is enabled.
The stop loss is wide, because the trade is meant to be closed by time and the stop is a protection against rare large moves. Check the stop distance of the first trades in the tester and choose a lot size that you are comfortable with if the full stop is reached.
Input parameters
- Symbols without a daily break: use the session clock (true). For symbols that trade through the daily rollover. It is not used on gold with a daily break.
- Lot mode: Fixed lot or Risk percent.
- Fixed lot: 0.01.
- Risk per trade: 0.5 percent of equity at the stop loss.
- Risk mode, use the minimum lot when the result is smaller: false.
- Typical spread as a fraction of price, and maximum spread multiple: the spread filter.
- Server clock: Auto-detect, Fixed UTC offset, or New York + 7 hours.
- Server UTC offset: used only with Fixed UTC offset.
- Magic number and maximum price deviation.
What to expect
The Expert Advisor trades rarely and the profit per trade is small. Long periods without progress are possible. Past results, in backtests or live, do not promise future results. Please run your own test in the Strategy Tester with your broker's data, using "Every tick based on real ticks" and a period of at least one year, before using it on a live account.
