The Ease of Movement+ (EOM+) indicator is a modernized and enhanced version of the classic Ease of Movement (EOM) oscillator, originally developed by Richard W. Arms Jr.. It measures the relationship between price movement and trading volume, helping traders determine how easily price is moving in a particular direction.
EOM+ enhances the original by adding flexible smoothing options and momentum-based coloring, making it more precise, visually intuitive, and actionable across different markets — including stocks, Forex, commodities, and CFDs.
The Ease of Movement+ (EOM+) indicator calculates how much price is moving relative to the trading volume. At each bar, it measures the change in the midpoint of the high and low prices, multiplied by the bar’s range (high minus low), and divided by volume:
-Positive EOM values indicate that the price is rising with relative ease, meaning less volume is pushing the price upward. Negative EOM values show that the price is falling with relative ease, meaning sellers are moving the market without heavy volume.
-Values above zero generally suggest bullish pressure, while values below zero signal bearish pressure. The indicator applies smoothing (SMA, EMA, or RMA) to reduce noise and highlight trends.
-Dynamic coloring shows acceleration and deceleration, with lime and green for upward movement and red and maroon for downward movement.
-EOM+ provides traders with a visual and numeric measure of how effortlessly price is moving, helping to identify trends, breakouts, and momentum shifts in real time.
