OVERVIEW
XAUUSD (gold) breakout EA. Trades the breakout of a New York-session range using its own New York-aligned H1 bars (automatic DST handling), with a percent-based initial stop and trailing stop. No martingale, no grid, one position at a time.
WHAT IT DOES
Gold NY Session Breakout looks for a single, well-defined setup:
1. The EA builds its own H1 bars aligned to New York time (not broker server time).
2. When the signal bar closes, the EA compares its close with the high/low of the recent range.
3. If the close breaks above the range, it buys; if it breaks below, it sells. The order is sent at market immediately after the bar has closed. Nothing is evaluated on unfinished bars, so there is no repainting and no look-ahead.
4. A percent-based initial stop-loss is placed with the order. Once the trade is in profit by a set percentage, the stop trails the price at a fixed percentage distance. The stop only moves in the favorable direction. There is no fixed take-profit, so winners can run.
Only one position is held at a time. No martingale, no grid, no averaging down.
WHY NEW YORK TIME, AND AUTOMATIC DST
Broker servers use different time zones and switch daylight saving time on different dates. The EA converts server time to New York time itself (using GMT and the US DST rules), so the same signal bar is used on any broker, all year round. You do not need to adjust any time input when DST changes.
WHY PERCENT-BASED STOPS
Gold moves in a very wide price range. Stops and trailing distances are expressed as a percentage of the entry price, so they scale automatically with the gold price.
INPUT PARAMETERS
SessionHours: Number of H1 bars used to build the range
CheckHourNY: New York hour (0-23) of the signal bar
InitialStopPercent: Initial stop-loss, % of entry price
TriggerPercent: Profit (%) at which trailing starts
TrailPercent: Trailing distance, % of price
Lots (default 0.03): Fixed lot size (about 1x exposure per $10,000; see the lot size note below)
MagicNumber: Identifier of this EA's positions
Slippage: Maximum slippage in points
The default values of the strategy parameters are the ones used in the results below. The lot size is automatically adjusted to the broker's minimum, maximum and step. Entries are skipped when free margin is insufficient.
RECOMMENDED SETUP
- Symbol: XAUUSD (or your broker's gold symbol). The EA prints a warning if attached to another symbol.
- Timeframe: any (the EA builds its own bars). H1 is fine.
- Account: any account type. Low-spread accounts are recommended.
- Lot size: the default is 0.03 lot, which is about 1x exposure on a $10,000 account at recent gold prices, and is the size used in the results below. Raising the lot size raises both profit and drawdown proportionally: for example 0.1 lot is about 3-4x exposure on $10,000 and had a 32.7% balance drawdown in the same test. Scale the lot size to your account balance.

Settings: XAUUSD, 2024.01.01 - 2026.09.13, tick-level simulation (history quality 99%, MetaQuotes-Demo server), deposit $10,000, leverage 1:100, 0.03 lot fixed, default parameters.
Net profit: +$10,877 (+108.8%)
Profit factor: 2.76
Total trades: 68 (36 long / 32 short)
Win rate: 51.5%

PLEASE READ - LIMITS OF THESE RESULTS
- Profits were back-loaded. Positions closed before mid-October 2025 totalled only about +$580 (+5.8%) over roughly 21 months. About 95% of the net profit was made in the last 11 months, during a very strong gold rally. A trailing-stop breakout system makes most of its money in strong trends and can go sideways for long periods.
- The parameters were chosen on the same period. They were selected by optimization on 2024-2026 data (with a train/test split), a period in which gold roughly tripled. Results in other market conditions may be very different.
- Small sample. 68 trades, and the single largest winner accounts for about a quarter of the net profit.
- Backtests are simulations. Real spreads, slippage, swap and order rejections will differ.
- The position size is fixed. As the gold price rises, the same lot size means a larger exposure.
