SMC Zones is a free smart money concepts indicator for MetaTrader 5. It draws order blocks, fair value gaps and BOS / CHoCH structure lines on any symbol and timeframe, with alerts for new and touched zones.
It is a charting tool. It draws zones and sends alerts; it places no trades and does not say when to buy or sell. Every zone is decided on a closed bar, so it does not repaint.
Quick start
- Attach it to any chart. Order blocks (green bullish, red bearish) and fair value gaps (blue bullish, amber bearish) appear, with BOS and CHoCH lines.
- Set Swing strength (default 3). A higher value gives fewer, larger structures.
- Choose how a zone is mitigated: Order block is mitigated when (default close) and Gap is mitigated when (default wick).
- Alerts for a new zone, a touched zone and BOS / CHoCH are on with a pop-up. Switch on sound, push or e-mail if you want them.
What you see on the chart
- Order blocks as rectangles: green for bullish, red for bearish.
- Fair value gaps as rectangles: blue for bullish, amber for bearish.
- BOS and CHoCH lines at the level that was broken.
- Optional liquidity sweep marks, and optional outlined zones from a higher timeframe.
How the zones are built
Every decision is made when a bar closes; the live bar is never used.
- Swing: a high with lower highs on the N bars to its left and no higher high on the N bars to its right (N = 3). Lows mirror this.
- BOS / CHoCH: a bar closes beyond the latest unbroken swing. A break against the previous direction is a CHoCH, otherwise a BOS.
- Order block: the last candle against the move at the start of the leg that made the break.
- Fair value gap: a three-candle gap of at least 0.2 x ATR (Wilder, 14).
- Mitigation: you choose the rule, from a touch to a close beyond the far edge. A mitigated zone is hidden or kept faded.
- Liquidity sweep (optional): a wick beyond an untouched swing by at least 0.1 x ATR that closes back inside.
Who it is for
For traders who mark order blocks and gaps by hand and want the same written rules applied every time, on any symbol: forex, gold, indices, crypto. Not for anyone who wants buy or sell signals or an automatic strategy.

Alerts and EA use
Alert events: new zone, zone touched and BOS / CHoCH (on); zone mitigated and sweep (off). Delivery: pop-up (on); sound, push and e-mail (off). You get one alert per closed bar, and none while history loads.
16 buffers for iCustom: order block edges (0-3) and gap edges (4-7). Structure event (8; 1 = BOS, 2 = CHoCH, sign = direction) and broken level (9). Sweeps (10-11), zones mitigated and touched (12-13), live bullish and bearish zones (14-15).
How it was checked
- Code check, repaint: an every-tick test on EURUSD H1 ran January to October 2026 (10.4 million ticks). 0 of 13,988 recorded values changed after their bar closed. The live bar stayed empty.
- Code check, parity: the buffers match an independent second implementation bar for bar on EURUSD, GBPJPY, XAUUSD and BTCUSD (M15, H1, H4; 36 files). This shows the code follows the rules. It does not show that zones are useful.
- Version 1.01 fixes slow Strategy Tester runs (EURUSD M1, one year: 25 min 27 s to 22.6 s). Buffers and alerts are unchanged.
Starting settings
No settings were measured for results; the defaults are a starting point. Raise the swing strength for fewer, larger structures.
Questions
- Does it repaint? A zone's creation bar and mitigation bar are fixed once the bar has closed.
- Can I test it in the Strategy Tester? Yes, in visual mode, on any symbol.
- Does it work on gold and crypto? Yes, on any symbol the terminal offers.
- Do I get alerts on my phone? Yes, with the push switch on and a MetaQuotes ID set.
- Does it tell me when to buy or sell? No. It marks areas; the decision stays yours.
