Mercaria Gryphon GOLD EA is an automated grid trading system for Gold (XAUUSD). You set the goal and the risk, and the EA handles the rest.
Key facts
- Symbol: XAUUSD (Gold)
- Platform: MetaTrader 5, hedging account
- Chart timeframe: any
- Method: grid with averaging and an adaptive take-profit
- Risk profiles: Standard or Hard (one switch)
- Schedule: weekly trading calendar with time windows
Why it is simple
There is no forest of settings. The EA keeps only the handful of inputs that actually change your result: a profit goal, a risk limit, the grid geometry, and a trading schedule. You set them once and judge the result in practice.
How it works
- The EA finds the entry on its own and opens a first position.
- If price moves against it, it averages in at a fixed step.
- It closes the whole basket together at an adaptive take-profit: a single grid-step retrace from the average is enough to bank the basket.
- It force-closes a basket once its floating loss reaches your Max Drawdown limit.
- It takes at most one trade per H1 candle period.
- When the session profit target is reached, auto-trading switches off by itself.
Two risk profiles, one switch
Standard uses a fixed equal lot on every level, with a capped grid depth (up to 40) and no aggressive add-ons. Drawdown grows smoothly and predictably, with a lighter load on the deposit. It is the default choice to start with and for smaller accounts.
Hard increases the position size level by level, so the basket recovers into profit faster, but drawdown and deposit load build up much faster too. It needs a larger balance and a wider risk limit, and suits experienced traders and bigger accounts.
The parameters you control
- Grid step (points): distance between averaging levels.
- Max grid levels: maximum grid depth.
- Lot profile: Standard or Hard.
- Session profit target (USD): once reached, auto-trading stops.
- Max drawdown (USD): per-basket loss limit (basket stop).
- Calendar mode: trade always or follow a weekly schedule.
- Out-of-session action: hold, close all, close and block, or finish setup.
- Per-day time windows: with a broker time-zone shift.
On-chart panel
A movable panel (drag it by the top strip) shows everything live.
- Profile and status: Ready, Grid active, Out of session, or cooldown.
- Grid: direction, levels (open and max), average entry, floating result, volume, next level price.
- Session: closed profit, cycles, stop-loss hits, maximum drawdown, uptime.
- Calendar: in or out of session, today's schedule, current time.
Buttons:
- On and Off: enable or pause auto-trading.
- Buy and Sell: manually open a basket in the chosen direction.
- Close all: close all EA positions and bank the result.
- Full reset: reset the internal state and session counters; open positions are untouched.
- Edit calendar: open the weekly schedule editor.
Trading calendar, how to use
The calendar sets which days and hours the EA trades, for example to skip weekends, the night, or major news. The default is Monday to Friday around the clock, with Saturday and Sunday off.
In the editor (Edit calendar button):
- Use the arrows to pick a weekday; the day statistics (profit, trades, drawdown) are shown next to it.
- Set each window with the minus and plus steppers (hours by 1, minutes by 5): start to end.
- Click a window number to toggle it: green means allowed, red means denied.
- Add range and Del range add or remove a window (up to ten per day, for example a morning and an evening session). Apply saves; Close closes the editor.
- The week overview lists the whole week; an empty day is blocked.
Via parameters: set day windows as 09:00-17:00,18:00-21:00 (commas separate windows; an empty value blocks the day). The schedule shift aligns the calendar with your broker time zone. Manual Buy, Sell, and Close ignore the calendar.
Out-of-session action: hold (keep open positions, open none), close all, close and block (until the session), or finish setup (finish the current basket and open no new ones).
Quick start
- Open an XAUUSD (Gold) chart on any timeframe.
- Attach the EA and enable Algo Trading in the terminal.
- Pick a profile; Standard to begin.
- Set the session profit target (your goal) and the maximum drawdown (your risk) to fit your balance; see Plan your balance.
- Leave the calendar as default, or set your own windows via Edit calendar.
- Press On on the panel to start auto-trading.
- Watch the panel; the EA stops itself when the target is reached.
Tip: start on a demo account first.
Plan your balance
Standard profile, two-digit Gold, 0.01 lot, step 350 (about 3.50 USD). Risk grows quickly with grid depth, and the figures below are the approximate floating loss at each depth:
20 levels ~ 665 USD
30 levels ~ 1,525 USD
40 levels ~ 2,730 USD (cap)
Set the maximum drawdown to the loss you accept, and the basket auto-closes there. For example, a maximum drawdown of 1,000 USD stops the grid near level 24 (about an 80 USD adverse move). As a rule of thumb, keep the balance at least three times your maximum drawdown, so a 1,000 USD risk means a deposit from 3,000 USD. The Hard profile builds volume and drawdown several times faster, so budget a larger deposit, a wider step, and a higher risk limit. Exact figures depend on your broker contract size and tick value.
Requirements
- Symbol: XAUUSD (Gold); optimized for Gold.
- Account: hedging, MetaTrader 5.
- Chart timeframe: any.
- Recommended: a low-spread or ECN broker for Gold, and a VPS for 24/5 operation.
- Start on a demo account, then go live with small risk.
Risk warning
Grid and averaging systems can accumulate drawdown in strong trends. Trade only with funds you can afford to lose, respect the Max Drawdown setting, and test on a demo first. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
