Swing Percentile Desk

What You See On The Chart

Swing Percentile Desk places one table on one chart. Each row is a symbol from your watchlist and each column is a pullback size. A cell tells you what share of that symbol's earlier moves the current move has already outdone. A low number means a young move; a high number means the move is stretched compared with the history of the same symbol.

Every symbol is compared only with itself, so a quiet pair and a restless pair are read on the same scale and no manual measuring is needed.

The indicator calculates and draws. It does not open, close or modify orders and it never touches your account.

Before You Start

The table is built from minute bars, so every listed symbol needs its M1 history inside the terminal. Whatever is missing is downloaded from your broker on demand; keep the terminal connected while the first numbers appear.

The first load of a long watchlist is the slow part, because each symbol is read through once. After that the table follows the market bar by bar. The terminal option for the maximum number of bars in a chart caps how much history can be loaded: set it high, otherwise a symbol is ranked against fewer past moves than the sample input requests.

A symbol with little history shows a blank cell until its sample holds enough moves. The default minimum is 5; lower the input to 0 to see a number from the first move.

The weekly and especially the monthly column need several years of minute history. With the default history depth the monthly column usually stays blank. Raise the history depth input and the terminal bar limit, or rely on the daily columns.

Watchlist And Symbol Names

Type the symbols separated by commas. Leave the field empty and the indicator takes symbols from Market Watch, up to the row cap you set. Each name has to be spelled the way Market Watch spells it, including whatever your broker adds in front of or after the pair; a name that is not found is skipped and the Experts log names it.

Highlighting What Matters

One text input defines the highlight rule. A single number, for example 95, colours every cell at or above it. Two numbers with the larger one first, for example 95;5, colour the cells at or above the first number and also the cells at or below the second. Two numbers with the smaller one first, for example 20;40, colour the cells that lie between them.

Rows that contain a coloured cell are listed first, and the footer counts the cells in the zone.

Reading A Table Cell

A cell shows the percentile of the current move. With cell details switched on, a few pip figures about the pullbacks of that move are printed next to the percentage.

A click on a cell opens the chart of that symbol on a timeframe that suits the column and applies the level grid of that column to it.

Levels And Distance Panel On The Chart

When the symbol of the chart is in the table, the indicator can draw price levels that correspond to percentile ranks. The first rank, the last rank, the gap between levels and the table column the grid follows are inputs. One style draws short labelled segments that start where price first reached the beginning of the grid; the other draws lines across the whole chart. The grid works with the span measure, the only one that converts directly into a price. An optional line joins the start of the current move to its extreme.

A compact panel under the table tells which band price is in and how far it still is from the 100% level. The rank printed there belongs to the extreme of the move, while the band belongs to the current price, so the two can differ. The panel can be switched off.

How Moves Are Cut

The indicator walks through the minute bars of a symbol and follows the price extreme. When price pulls back from that extreme by the chosen size, the move is closed and a new one starts there. The result is a sequence of moves of different size and duration, and the move that is still running is placed within that sequence.

The pullback size is set in one of three ways. The static method takes one value in pips for every symbol. The dynamic method takes a percentage of the average daily range. The fixed set builds several columns at once from the average daily, weekly and monthly range. With the static and dynamic methods all columns carry the same size, and a click then opens the symbol on H1.

What Gets Ranked

The ranking can use any of five measures of a move.

  • Span. The distance covered by the move.
  • Age. How long the move has lasted.
  • Travel. The sum of the close to close steps along the move.
  • Bodies. The sum of the candle bodies along the move.
  • Counter. The sum of the steps against the direction of the move.

Span is the default. An option extends the measuring of age, travel, bodies and counter steps of the running move up to the last bar instead of its extreme.

Input Reference

  • Watchlist, sample size, calculation timeframe, bars read per symbol, minimum moves per cell, symbol cap for Market Watch.
  • Pullback method, static size, dynamic percentage, average range period.
  • Measure of a move and the highlight rule.
  • Table switch, grid switch, grid column, grid start, end and step, grid style and reach, current move line, distance panel switch.
  • Cell details, table position.
  • Optional export of the numbers to a file in the terminal data folder.

Swept Liquidity Pools

A liquidity sweep is a bar that pushes past a prior swing high or swing low, where protective stop orders tend to rest, and then closes back on the inner side of that level. The same event is known under several names: a stop hunt, a stop run, a liquidity grab, a false breakout, a failed breakout, or a swing failure. Swept Liquidity Pools marks those levels and those bars on the chart. The indicator tracks liquidity pools - confirmed swing levels that have not yet been taken - and marks the exac

What Gets Drawn Most level tools mark every swing they can find, and a chart with forty lines answers nothing. This one keeps a level only when price came back to it, and prints the evidence next to the line: the number of touches and the age in days. Lines above current price and lines below it are drawn in different colours, so the map reads at a glance without counting. Three Anchors On One Chart Most volume weighted average lines restart once a day. This one draws three at the same time: one anchored to the current trading session, one to the day, one to the week. Their spread tells you something a single line cannot. When the session line sits far under the weekly one, the week has been trading higher than today is; when all three sit together, the market has spent the week in one place. Hourly Spread Map answers one question: at which hours does this symbol cost more to enter, and by how much.
