Aurum Quartet
Aurum Quartet is a transparent, four-system breakout portfolio for XAUUSD (gold) on MetaTrader 5. Four independent systems - a morning window breakout, a day high-low breakout, a prior-day range straddle, and a swing-ladder breakout - trade the same instrument from a single chart. All four are direction-neutral and fire whether price breaks up or down, so the portfolio can profit whether gold is rising or falling; what it dislikes is a directionless, ranging market. Every position carries a real hard stop loss, and there is no martingale, no grid, no averaging into losers. This page leads with verified backtests, shows the drawdown for every year including the difficult ones, and tells you plainly where a breakout portfolio struggles. It is built for traders who value honest disclosure over marketing hype.
Strategy
Aurum Quartet combines four low-correlation breakout edges. The first places limit orders above and below the morning time window and captures the move that breaks out of that window. The second is a breakout from the current day's high and low; it is the steadiest of the four systems, so it is deliberately given slightly more weight. The third is a two-sided straddle built on the prior day's range that follows the direction of the break. The fourth is a momentum breakout that emerges from a swing-ladder structure. Each system has its own magic number and its own hard stop loss and is placed and closed independently. Diversification comes from combining four low-correlation edges, not from averaging losers back to breakeven. The schedule anchors are driven off server time, and the system reads the price data it needs internally.
Built-in protection
Risk is limited by structure and by stops rather than hidden. Every position of every system has a real hard stop, which is the primary defense; there is no hidden basket that must be rescued. A built-in per-trade risk cap (default 2.0%) skips any single trade whose stop-distance risk would exceed that percent of balance, protecting small accounts and high-volatility days from min-lot oversizing. A daily-loss gate blocks new entries after a realized daily loss threshold is reached (it counts realized losses, not floating losses). Drawdown scales cleanly with the risk-per-trade setting, so we publish that mapping instead of showing only the best case. Because the design needs hedging, on a netting account the EA detects the account type at start, prints a clear message, and disables itself without placing trades. Position sizing and every internal threshold adapt automatically to the account currency, so the system runs the same on a yen, dollar, or euro account; broker symbol prefixes and suffixes are resolved automatically, and the server time-zone and daylight-saving offset are measured live rather than assumed.
Backtest results
Tested in the MetaTrader 5 tester on XAUUSD, H1, 1:500 leverage, starting balance 320,000 JPY (about $2,100), Balanced profile (1% risk). The headline figure comes from real-tick testing.
Period 2025.01.01 - 2026.07.05 (real tick):
Profit Factor 1.42 / Max drawdown about 10% / Net profit +1,936,407 JPY
All-year robustness is from the 1-minute OHLC model, with the weak years fully disclosed. Note that 1-minute OHLC tends to be more optimistic than real ticks, so the table below reads better than real ticks would.
Year | Profit Factor | Max drawdown
2023 (gold range year) | about 1.18 | about 20%
2024 | about 1.40 | about 10%
2025 | about 1.54 | about 10%
2026 first half | about 1.71 | about 8%
Profitable in 4 of 4 years. The worst year, 2023, is a range/chop year - the structural weak spot of any breakout portfolio. We disclose it rather than hide it behind a 2025-only window. Drawdown scales with the risk setting: about 6% at risk 0.75%, about 10% at 1.0% (default), about 15% at 1.5%, and about 20% at 2.0%. The Profit Factor is roughly unchanged by the risk setting because the edge is structural - only the size of the drawdown changes. All of the above are backtests, not a live track record, and past performance does not guarantee future results.
Quick start
Copy the file into the Experts folder and refresh the Navigator. Attach Aurum Quartet to one XAUUSD H1 chart and allow algorithmic trading. Load a preset (start with Balanced; use Conservative if you are new to the EA). The journal prints a startup report that shows a hedging account, the account currency, your server GMT offset, and today's schedule in server time. If your broker is not on EET (Eastern European Time), enable server-time auto-detect for live trading so the schedule anchors stay correct. Deploy and restart during the server daytime.
Requirements
A hedging account is required (on a netting account the EA disables itself at start). XAUUSD must be tradable at your broker. Because the calibration was tuned on a raw-spread feed, an ECN/Raw broker with a near-zero stops level is recommended (the portability layer also works on other types). Leverage of 1:100 or higher is recommended. Any account currency is supported. The recommended minimum deposit is $500 (about 75,000 JPY) as a hard floor and $1,000 (about 150,000 JPY) or more as the recommendation; a ~$200 account is explicitly out of scope. This funding floor is important to the safety of the system. A VPS is recommended for continuous, low-latency operation.
Settings and presets
All strategy logic is built in and pre-tuned, and most users simply attach the EA and run the defaults. Four presets are included: Conservative (risk 0.75%, DD about 6%), Balanced (risk 1.0%, DD about 10%, the recommended default), Aggressive (risk 1.5%, DD about 15%), and FixedLot-0.01 (a constant 0.01 lot per system that ignores the risk-% sizing - a verification / small-account mode). Position sizing is either risk-% or a fixed lot. The lower the risk %, the smaller the lot per trade, but it hits the 0.01 minimum-lot floor more easily, so on a small account it is important to keep the recommended funding floor. You also control each system's on/off switch, the per-trade risk cap, the daily-loss gate, and the broker-portability inputs (server-time auto-detect, reference GMT, stops-level adjustment).
Honest notes
This is a breakout portfolio. In sustained range/chop regimes (such as 2023 for gold) performance is weaker - expect a lower Profit Factor and a deeper drawdown in those periods. Drawdown scales with the risk-per-trade setting, so size to the larger, worst-year drawdown, not the calm-year figure. Mind the gap-through risk: the design assumes stop-losses are filled at their level. In an extreme loss of liquidity (a large price jump straight through the stops), there is no protection against the price gap, and several systems' positions can face the same shock at once. That is why sizing must stay conservative, the funding floor must be kept, and the hard stops and per-trade risk cap are there as backstops. Please test on a demo account first and start with the default settings at conservative sizing. Backtest results do not guarantee future performance.
