PHANTEX — Adaptive Cycle Oscillator
Most indicators lie to you in ranging markets.
They fire buy and sell signals constantly — in trends, in chop, during news, during dead Asian session flat lines — with no awareness of whether the market is actually moving in a tradeable rhythm or just drifting randomly. Traders following those signals get stopped out repeatedly, wonder what they are doing wrong, and eventually blame themselves.
The problem is not the trader. The problem is that standard oscillators use a fixed period — RSI 14, Stochastic 14, CCI 20 — chosen arbitrarily, applied blindly regardless of what the market is actually doing at that moment.
PHANTEX is built differently.
What makes PHANTEX different
PHANTEX measures the real dominant cycle of the market on every single bar using the Hilbert Transform — a mathematical technique from digital signal processing science used in radar, sonar and telecommunications to extract the instantaneous frequency and phase of any waveform.
Applied to price, it answers three questions that no fixed-period oscillator can answer:
- What is the actual rhythm of this market right now, in bars?
- Where exactly inside that rhythm is price sitting at this moment?
- Is the cycle strong enough to trade, or is this just random noise?
When the cycle is real and measurable, PHANTEX shows clear arrows and an active dashboard. When the market is flat, choppy or in a low-amplitude drift, PHANTEX goes silent and the dashboard reads FLAT — STAND ASIDE. No arrows. No false signals.
That silence is one of the most valuable things an indicator can give a trader.
The core signal — Sine and Lead Sine crossover
Two lines are plotted in the sub-window:
The Sine Wave tracks the current position of price within its dominant cycle, expressed as a smooth oscillator between -1 and +1. Think of it as a clock hand showing the time of day inside the market's own rhythm.
The Lead Sine runs 45 degrees ahead of the Sine Wave — it is mathematically one quarter-cycle in front. This means it turns before the Sine Wave does, giving advance warning of the upcoming cycle turn rather than confirming it after the fact.
- When the Sine Wave crosses the Lead Sine from below while still in the lower half of the oscillator, price is rising out of a cycle trough. That is the buy signal — early, not late.
- When the Sine Wave crosses the Lead Sine from above while still in the upper half of the oscillator, price is rolling over from a cycle peak. That is the sell signal — again, caught early.
The crossing fires an arrow on the chart, an alert in MT4, an email and a push notification to your phone — all configurable.
The Amplitude Gate — why PHANTEX stays quiet when others shout
Every crossover indicator has a weakness: it generates signals even when there is nothing real to trade. PHANTEX solves this with an amplitude gate.
The Hilbert Transform does not just measure cycle phase — it also measures cycle strength. A strong, clean cycle produces high amplitude in the I and Q components. A flat, directionless market produces near-zero amplitude.
The amplitude gate checks this value on every bar. If it falls below the threshold you set, every signal is suppressed — no arrows appear, no alerts fire, and the dashboard switches to FLAT — STAND ASIDE. Only when the amplitude clears the threshold and a genuine cycle is detected does PHANTEX become active again.
This single filter is responsible for eliminating the majority of false signals that plague standard crossover-based oscillators.
The live dashboard
A compact information panel sits on the main chart at all times, showing:
- Market regime: CYCLING — SIGNALS ACTIVE or FLAT — STAND ASIDE
- Dominant cycle length in bars (updates on every bar)
- Current phase angle in degrees
- Phase stage with colour coding — Cycle Rising, Approaching Peak, PEAK ZONE EXIT, Approaching Trough, TROUGH ZONE EXIT
- Cycle amplitude reading
- Live stop loss guide based on 1.5 x ATR(14)
- Half-cycle take profit target in bars
The phase stage colours change automatically: green when rising, amber when approaching an extreme, red when at a peak or trough zone where open positions should be managed.
Entry and exit rules
- Buy entry: Dashboard shows CYCLING — SIGNALS ACTIVE. Green arrow appears on the oscillator. Phase stage reads Cycle Rising or Approaching Trough. Enter at the open of the next candle. Place stop loss at 1.5 x ATR(14) below entry as shown in the dashboard.
- Sell entry: Dashboard shows CYCLING — SIGNALS ACTIVE. Red arrow appears on the oscillator. Phase stage reads Approaching Peak or Cycle Falling. Enter at the open of the next candle. Place stop loss at 1.5 x ATR(14) above entry.
- Take profit: Target half the dominant cycle forward. Dashboard shows Cycle: 18 bars — target approximately 9 bars ahead. Alternatively close when the Sine Wave crosses back through the zero line.
Exit immediately when:
- The opposite arrow fires
- Phase stage reaches PEAK ZONE or TROUGH ZONE — move stop to breakeven or close partial position
- Dashboard switches to FLAT mid-trade — tighten stop immediately
Recommended settings
- Scalping on M5 and M15: Amplitude Gate 0.12, Pre-smoother 2. Faster response, suitable for pairs with tight spreads.
- Intraday trading on M30 and H1: Default settings. Amplitude Gate 0.10, Pre-smoother 3. The most reliable configuration for the majority of traders.
- Swing trading on H4 and D1: Amplitude Gate 0.08, Pre-smoother 3. Fewer signals, higher cycle clarity required before firing.
- Gold XAUUSD on M15 and M30: Amplitude Gate 0.15, Pre-smoother 2. Higher threshold required due to intraday volatility spikes.
- GBPJPY and volatile minor pairs on M5 and M15: Amplitude Gate 0.13, Pre-smoother 2.
Compatible instruments
All major Forex pairs — EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, USDCHF, AUDUSD, USDCAD, NZDUSD and crosses. Gold XAUUSD. Silver XAGUSD. Works on any MT4 symbol.
Not recommended for binary options under M5 or within two minutes of major scheduled news releases.
Input parameters
Signal Settings
- Amplitude Gate — InpAmpThresh — default 0.10 Minimum cycle amplitude required to activate signals. The single most important parameter. Increase for volatile pairs or choppy sessions, decrease for swing trading on higher timeframes. Recommended range 0.06 to 0.25.
- Pre-smoother period — InpSmoothLen — default 3 Bars used in the noise filter applied before the Hilbert Transform. Range 1 to 5. Lower is faster, higher is cleaner. For most users the default of 3 is the correct balance.
- Phase guard cutoff — InpPhaseGuard — default 75 degrees Maximum phase angle at which a new entry signal is permitted. Prevents signalling after the cycle turn has already passed. Recommended range 60 to 85 degrees.
Display Settings
- Show info panel — InpShowPanel — default true Enables or disables the dashboard panel on the main chart.
- Panel X offset — InpPanelX — default 12 Horizontal position of the panel in pixels from the left edge of the chart.
- Panel Y offset — InpPanelY — default 20 Vertical position of the panel in pixels from the top of the chart.
- Panel background colour — InpPanelBg Background fill colour of the dashboard box.
- Panel border colour — InpPanelBorder Border colour of the dashboard box.
- Text colour — InpTextColor Colour used for standard data rows in the panel.
