News Filter: Live Trading vs Backtesting

GOLDEN BREAK uses the MQL5 Economic Calendar to protect new entries around selected USD news events. How the news data is obtained depends on whether you are trading live or running a backtest.

Live / Forward Trading:
No News Exporter is required. GOLDEN BREAK reads current news information directly from the MQL5 Economic Calendar. Simply configure the News Filter inside the EA.

Strategy Tester / Backtesting:
The MT5 Strategy Tester cannot provide the EA with historical MQL5 Calendar data in the same way as live trading. Therefore, if you want the News Filter to operate using actual historical news events during a backtest, you must first export the news history using Export-USD-News.

News Exporter for Backtesting

The News Exporter collects historical USD economic events from the MQL5 Calendar and creates a news history file that GOLDEN BREAK can read during Strategy Tester runs.

You only need to use the News Exporter when you want historical news protection in a backtest. It is not required for live or forward trading.

How to Create the News History File

  1. Log in to the same broker server that you intend to use for backtesting.
  2. Download Export-USD-News.ex5 from the link above.
  3. In MetaTrader 5, go to File → Open Data Folder → MQL5 → Scripts.
  4. Place Export-USD-News.ex5 inside the Scripts folder.
  5. Return to MT5. In Navigator, right-click Scripts → Refresh.
  6. Drag Export-USD-News onto an online chart.
  7. Set ExportFrom to a date at least one day before the beginning of your intended backtest.
  8. Click OK and allow the script to download and process the historical Calendar data.
  9. Wait until the Experts tab reports Exported ... USD events.
  10. The news history file will be saved automatically in the MT5 Common\Files folder.

Important: Broker-Specific News Files

Starting with GOLDEN BREAK, the News Exporter uses broker-specific file naming. This is important because broker server times can differ.

Create the news file while connected to the same broker/server environment that you intend to test. If you backtest GOLDEN BREAK using another broker, run the News Exporter again while connected to that broker so the EA can use the corresponding news history.

Running a Backtest with News Protection

  1. Create the broker-specific news history file using the steps above.
  2. Make sure the exported period covers your entire backtest period.
  3. The export should also cover enough time before the test start date for your configured Before News window.
  4. Open Strategy Tester and configure GOLDEN BREAK normally.
  5. Enable the desired News Filter.
  6. Run the test using Local agents.

GOLDEN BREAK will automatically look for the appropriate exported news file. You do not need to manually import or select the file inside the EA inputs.

If no compatible news file is available:
The backtest will continue, but historical news protection will not be applied. The EA will display NEWS N/A - NO FILE. After creating or updating the news file, restart the backtest so GOLDEN BREAK can load it.

Important: The News Exporter does not need to remain running. Once the required history has been exported, the file can be reused for backtests that fall within its covered period.

Risk Management

Risk per Trade applies to each order, not total account exposure. Multiple strategies can have exposure at the same time, so their individual risks can accumulate.

GOLDEN BREAK adds Cluster Risk Protection to help control combined risk when multiple strategy entries are located near each other. The maximum allowed cluster risk can be configured in the EA inputs or disabled when not required.

Risk calculations are estimates based on order parameters and stop-loss distance. Broker minimum lot sizes, gaps, slippage, commissions and execution conditions can affect actual results.

Always backtest using your intended broker and configuration and test on a demo account before using live funds. Past results do not guarantee future performance.

I bought this EA in April and have been using it ever since. There have been some drawdown periods, but overall, the EA has continued to perform consistently. Excellent EA overall, esp when settings are adapted to the constantly changing trading conditions. Times have been tough due to Trump and his wars- challenging for everyone, but this EA certainly has good potential. Appreciate the regular updates- esp the "GB6 Precision Scalp" option, very good win rate with ultra low drawdown. Keep up the good work.

Excellent EA overall, esp when settings are adapted to the constantly changing trading conditions. Times have been tough due to Trump and his wars- challenging for everyone, but this EA certainly has good potential. Appreciate the regular updates- esp the "GB6 Precision Scalp" option, very good win rate with ultra low drawdown. Keep up the good work.

Its a robust EA backed by an amazing author. I had issues in the beginning with my broker as it was no optimized for it, but Sakon worked on it and made it so all the things were eventually solved. He is always available to answer any query you have and is extremely helpful. The EA is always been worked on to be improved and its come to a point where I trust this EA more than any others in my portfolio and I have most of the heavy hitters. Keep up the good work Sakon.

I’m happy to write this review because usually, every time I buy and install an Expert Advisor and start with a series of losses, I’m told that I need to give it time. Sure, time is important.
