There are two problems in Russia now - the Kiev Maidan and the siege of Leningrad. There is nothing closer, neither in time nor in space.
Why is the state suddenly concerned with turning the history of the people into a parody of a religious cult? Who will become priests, who will become inquisitors, who will be made to repent and for what?
One answer is on the surface. The ideological vacuum, the inability to justify their own existence with any accomplishments in the present (yes, we steal, our children are abroad, and you sit in the mud and work as hard as you can because we lack money, but for that we are leading you into a shining tomorrow; they need something like that, after all) turns state thought in the direction of the past. The image of a country in a ring of enemies, preoccupied solely with matters of applied sodomy, does not work: all the time unnecessary doubts creep into the mind of the citizen. Why, then, do our enemies live a far more attractive life? Why are your children there? And so on.

And if the rednecks start asking uncomfortable questions, the pack of propagandists react immediately!
That ideal has not yet been achieved. Well, that's where it's all heading now!
