Adding the OOP and many duplicated functions to MQL4 did not help the MQL4 coders, but rather the MQL5 coders. They could port their work to MQL4 easily then. And now, MQ are adding the MQL4 unique features to MQL5, so now they are actually helping MQL4 coders with porting to MQL5.
But... as the new MQL4 functions were not preferred above the older ones, not even marked as preferred (or obsolete), the porting MQL4 to MQL5 won't be as smooth as you may expect. Most of MQL4 source codes (both old and new) are using large amount of the incompatible function patterns.
They tell very clear. No reason for continue using MT4. Not surprise for me

New metatrader 4 for iOS
MT4 Build 970/971 has had some changes I noticed a lot of the coloured candle type indicators no longer display correctly and the priority setting ( mainly if you use separate label code for the buttons instead of the button labels ) for the button/rectangle label code has changed plus code that previously had no warnings or errors now has them. I suspect there may be a lot more that will be noticed as time goes on however it also appears that the cpu usage has once more increased as the platform appears very sluggish. Any one else noticed anything?
I read this one for MT4. So old post for me. But good share. I think MT4 is still best then any other software for trading.
