Time frames and Ticks question

Hi there,

I found out that I'm unable to run my experts before Feb 2008 on some (small) time frames, since the history is missing.

On the other hand, it seems like there are many ticks, which makes me wonder whether it contradicts the above?

How do u know?

Why dont you try to obtain/download the missing history from your brokerage? You need complete history in order to get reliable backtesting results anyways...

thank you

Gordon,

I took for instance a day in 2005 and printed the number of ticks (Print(i) were i is a static variable in the start function).

I got ~5000 ticks.

I think I'm missing something regarding the history in the meta trader.

How can I download updated history with all the correct historical ticks till 2002? Is it possible? How can I know what is my current History limit?

When I go to the history center and try to download, it warns me about my account being a "FxPro Financial Service Ltd" and not.

Thanks for your help.

Pressing the 'Download' button in history center will download data directly from MQ (and NOT from your broker). This data is indicative and generally not recommended. Note that this data will overwrite your broker's data and that the lowest resolution you can get is M1 data (no tick data!).

Also before downloading lots of historical data dont forget to increase your max bars settings in the Tools/Options/Charts dialog...

thank you

Ok, that was very informative. Thank you. I think that these issues are not well documented or regarded in the manual.

A few more questions:

- How can I get information from 2001 with high resolution?

- How do the ticks really work? are they being downloaded or they work only on online? (Or emulated somehow)

Search the forum... There are a few resources mentioned.

In the Tester - interpolated (according to the chosen 'Model'). More info here -> https://www.mql5.com/en/articles/1511.
