Stop Giving Back Profits: A Real-Time XAUUSD Trailing Case Study with Royal Aurum Confluence
Getting gold’s direction right feels good. Watching an open profit disappear feels considerably worse.
The difficult decision often comes after the entry: close too soon and miss the continuation, or keep the original stop and risk giving everything back?
This October 22 XAUUSD trade shows a practical middle ground-using the first target as a reference for protecting profit while leaving the positions open for a further move.
Gold was under pressure that day. Reuters reported a decline to a more than two-month low as rising oil prices increased inflation concerns and expectations of elevated interest rates. That supported a bearish backdrop, but it did not remove the risk of an intraday rebound.
The four screenshots below follow one SELL setup from entry through the final exit.
Royal Aurum Confluence displayed an active XAUUSD M5 SELL plan:
✅ Reference entry: 4067.96
✅ Initial stop loss: 4078.43
✅ First target: 4057.49
✅ Four additional targets below TP1
Three 0.30-lot SELL positions were opened near the reference entry. The first screenshot shows a combined floating profit of $326.70, with the original stops still in place.
The useful part is having the plan visible before the next decision becomes urgent. Entry, initial risk and potential targets are already on the chart.
Price continued lower and passed TP1 at 4057.49. The panel updated TP1 to HIT, while the three positions showed $1,096.20 in floating profit.
A strong move was underway, but the stops remained at 4078.43. The open profit could still shrink substantially if gold reversed.
This was the management decision: allow room for the remaining targets, while bringing the stop closer to protect part of the move.
The stop loss on each position was moved down to 4057.49 - the TP1 level. No partial close was used in this sequence.
With price trading below TP1, the positions remained open for further downside. A rebound to the revised stop would trigger an exit, subject to execution and slippage.
The terminal’s S/L column confirms the adjustment. The indicator still shows 4078.43 as the original setup SL: Royal Aurum Confluence supplies the reference plan, while the trader controls the actual orders.
At this moment, floating profit reached $1,156.50.
Gold then bounced. All three positions closed at 4057.49, with the account history displaying profits of $319.20, $305.40 and $297.90.
Total displayed closed profit: $922.50.
That is less than the floating profit in the previous screenshot. This is the trade-off: allowing a position to continue means accepting that some open profit may be surrendered before the protective stop is reached.
Here, the rebound ended the trade with a profit at the planned protection level.
A clearer plan when gold starts moving
This example captures the practical value of Royal Aurum Confluence: a closed-bar signal, a defined Entry and Stop Loss, five progressive targets, and HIT/WAIT tracking that makes progress easy to follow. Popup alerts and mobile push notifications help bring new setups to your attention.
You decide whether to enter, how much to risk and when to adjust the stop. The levels give those decisions a consistent reference.
If managing a winning gold trade leaves you second-guessing every candle, start with a plan you can see.
