This manual explains how to install and check Dream Catcher Dual Breakout Portfolio in MetaTrader 5. The Expert Advisor contains two independent breakout strategies: one for a Nasdaq-100 CFD and one for USDJPY. You can run either strategy on its own, or run both on one account as a two-engine portfolio.
The two preset files are attached to the bottom of this post.
1. What you need
- MetaTrader 5 with Algo Trading enabled.
- A hedging account with low-spread or raw pricing. Minimum deposit 1,000 USD; 5,000 USD or more is recommended.
- Leverage of 1:30 or higher.
- A broker that offers USDJPY and a Nasdaq-100 CFD.
- A broker whose server time is GMT+2 or GMT+3, with the daily candle closing at the New York close.
- A VPS is recommended so both charts stay active.
2. Check your broker's Nasdaq-100 symbol
Our broker calls its Nasdaq-100 CFD USTECH. Other brokers use names such as US100, NAS100, USTEC, US100Cash, USTECHCash or US Tech 100. These names all identify Nasdaq-100 products, but the contracts behind them are not identical.
Before you trade, open the Market Watch, right-click the symbol and choose Specification. Check the contract size, tick value, minimum volume, spread and commission. A cash CFD and a futures-based CFD on the same index can behave differently, and that affects position sizing.
3. Install the Expert Advisor
- In MetaTrader 5, open the Navigator panel (Ctrl+N).
- Find Dream Catcher Dual Breakout Portfolio under Expert Advisors, in the Market section.
- Download the two attached preset files and save them in MQL5/Presets inside your terminal's data folder. You can open that folder with File > Open Data Folder.
4. Set up the two charts
The Expert Advisor is attached once per symbol, on its own chart. Both charts use the M15 timeframe.
- Nasdaq-100 chart: open your broker's Nasdaq-100 CFD on M15 and attach the Expert Advisor. In the input dialog click Load and choose Dream Catcher NAS100-USTECH.set.
- USDJPY chart: open USDJPY on M15 and attach the Expert Advisor. Click Load and choose Dream Catcher USDJPY.set.
Each preset sets InpInstrumentPreset to the correct built-in configuration: 1 for the Nasdaq-100 engine, 2 for the USDJPY engine. Do not load the USDJPY preset onto the index chart, or the other way round.
Confirm that Algo Trading is on and that a smiling face appears in the top-right corner of each chart.
5. The inputs you may change
| InpInstrumentPreset | Selects the built-in configuration. 1 is the Nasdaq-100 engine, 2 is the USDJPY engine. The presets set this for you; there is no reason to change it. |
| InpBrokerSymbol | Leave blank to use the symbol of the chart the Expert Advisor is attached to. Set it only if you need to name your broker's symbol explicitly. |
| InpRiskMode | 1 uses a percentage of account equity per trade. 0 uses a fixed lot size. |
| InpRiskPercent | The percentage of equity risked on each trade when InpRiskMode is 1. The default is 1.00 and every published study uses it. |
| InpFixedLots | The lot size used when InpRiskMode is 0. |
| InpShowLevels, InpPrimaryColor, InpSecondaryColor | Chart display only. They do not change trading behaviour. |
6. Risk is set per trade, not per account
InpRiskPercent applies to each trade, on each chart. If both engines hold a position at the same time with the default 1%, the account carries roughly 2% of planned stop risk before costs and execution effects. Trades taken one after another during the same day can lose more than that.
Size the account as one risk budget. Do not set each chart as though it were a separate account. If you want the account's total exposure closer to 1%, set InpRiskPercent to 0.50 on both charts rather than leaving 1.00 on each.
If your account is small, the calculated lot size may fall below your broker's minimum volume. Check the minimum volume in the symbol specification and be aware that trades can be skipped on an account that is too small for the contract.
7. Server time matters
Both engines work from intraday reference levels and session ranges, so they depend on where your broker places the daily boundary. The published configuration assumes a server at GMT+2 or GMT+3, where the daily candle closes at the New York close. On a broker with a different server time the sessions will not line up, and results will differ from the studies.
You can check your server time in the Market Watch window. If it does not match, test carefully before committing capital.
8. Test before you commit capital
Download the free Market demo and run it in the Strategy Tester with the attached presets on your own broker's data. Compare the results with your broker's spread, commission and history quality. The Market demo runs only in the Strategy Tester; it does not trade a live account.
9. What normal operation looks like
- Quiet periods with no trades are normal, on one or both engines. The Nasdaq-100 engine takes at most one trade per signal per day, and the USDJPY engine skips setups that fail its volatility gate.
- Both engines place pending stop orders. An order that is placed and then cancelled without filling is normal behaviour, not an error.
- Every position opens with a stop loss attached.
- Losing days, losing months and losing years on an individual engine should be expected.
10. If no trades appear
- Check that Algo Trading is enabled in the toolbar and in Tools > Options > Expert Advisors.
- Check the Experts and Journal tabs for messages from the Expert Advisor.
- Confirm the chart timeframe is M15 and the correct preset is loaded.
- Confirm the symbol is the one the preset expects, and that the market is open.
- Check that your free margin and the symbol's minimum volume allow the calculated lot size.
