Strifor Smart Lot Calculator for MT5: How to Calculate Position Size on the Chart
The Strifor Smart Lot Calculator offers a visual way to calculate position size using price levels on the chart.
When Manual Calculations Become Inconvenient
During market analysis, a trader identifies an entry point and the price level at which the trading scenario is no longer valid. This level is often used as the Stop Loss.
If the trader then has to measure the distance separately, convert it into points, and enter the value into a calculator, another step is added to the workflow. In an active market, this can take time and increase the risk of technical errors.
How Line Mode Works
In chart-line calculation mode, two horizontal lines are placed on the chart:
-
The first marks the planned entry point.
-
The second marks the Stop Loss level.
The indicator measures the distance between the two levels and uses it to calculate position size. The permitted risk percentage remains set in the indicator's settings.
The process is straightforward: define the trading scenario, mark the entry and Stop Loss on the chart, choose the acceptable risk, and view the calculated position volume.
Why Visual Calculation Is Useful
Traders do not need to measure or remember the Stop Loss distance separately. When a price level changes, the distance between the lines changes as well. This makes it easier to assess how an adjustment to the technical setup affects position size.
With the same account capital and risk percentage, moving the Stop Loss farther away from the entry will generally reduce the calculated position size. If the protective level is closer to the entry, the calculated volume may be larger.
This chart-based approach connects technical analysis and position sizing in one workspace.
What Goes Into the Calculation?
Strifor Smart Lot Calculator can account for:
-
the current account balance or manually entered capital;
-
the risk percentage;
-
the distance to the Stop Loss;
-
the specifications of the traded instrument.
In Manual Mode, the Stop Loss distance is entered through the StopLossPips parameter. In Line Mode, the distance is determined directly on the chart.
Where Can This Approach Be Useful?
Chart-based calculation can be useful when trading currency pairs, XAUUSD, USOIL/WTI, and indices such as US500.
However, instruments with different contract specifications require additional attention. Tick Value and contract parameters can vary between instruments and brokers, so traders should verify the calculated volume before opening a position.
A Calculator Does Not Replace Trading Decisions
Strifor Smart Lot Calculator does not predict market direction or provide entry signals. Its role is more specific: to help calculate position size after the trader has defined a trading scenario.
It is a risk-planning tool, not a market-prediction system. Before using the indicator on a live account, traders are advised to test it on a demo account and check that the calculations match the specifications of the instrument they intend to trade.
